I am sure quite a few people here have had their OEM power antenna die on them, I have seen some at the local auto part stores that look like crap and priced real cheap, I refuse to go with those. My question is, anyone got a good brand that they would suggest for a small non power replacement?

I just recently changed out that piece of shit power antenna for a Limited Edition Fuba antenna. Not only does it look dope as f--- but it has awesome reception. Five minute install, plus having to run the line to your headunit...no need to ground this baby, though you might start picking up transmissions from 1955 if you do! ;) Check it out here:

I had a good experience with them. Good price and fast shipping.

Do you happen to have a picture of it installed on your car I could see? Looks like what I was going for, maybe a bit taller then what I wanted but I could deal with that. How flush does it sit on the car?

Perfectly flush. Look for a pic here tomorrow when it's daylight. IMO, stubbies don't look too hot on our cars since they are fat, if that's what you're looking for...they look good on S2000s. The fuba matches the lines of the 2G and looks elegant while sporty.

I just figure, I need something and the last thing I need is my ant being ripped off by some lame kid. Plus, I need to find something for the other cars as well since they are missing theirs.

Mine got on my last nerve only a few days ago. So what did I do? I opened it up and ripped out anything I could grab with my hands :p. I then unplugged the power to the motor for it and left it in the sleek and stealth down position.

I suppose eventually I'll want to remedy that, but for now I get awesome reception with my ipod FM transmitter with less outside feedback/noise than ever before. :thumb:

Thanks for the link.

I like that, I think I will be going with it in a couple months, after the engine build is done.

They only had 2 left of the Limited Edition Fuba antenna's. I said screw it and grabbed one before they sold out.

you know you can wire in your rear window antenna right? I did and I get just a little bit less reception than the power.....

Alright, when you take out your stock radio youll notice there are two antenna ports, one large and one small.

Our cars came with power antennas and also antennas built into our defrosters....badass right?
The large one is your regular power antenna and most people use that as it does get slightly better reception. However, since I hate the look I wired my small port antenna (the one in my back windshield) into the port, you can either wire it in, or you can get a 5 buck adapter plug at circuit city. That way, the power antenna will not go up and you can shave it out and get rid of it. I got mostly the same reception except for a few places.

That way you really dont need one of those ugly (to me) s2000 antenas. Competely clean and I didnt spend a dime.

S2000's are nothing like fubas, they are just a slanted stick. Fuba reception kicks the crap out of power antenna without even a ground. There's a reason why all the newest cars have fubas on them...350Zs, VWs. Btw time is money to most people, and if it offers substandard reception then he might as well leave it out entirely. My sound system is too expensive to waste on poor reception. That would defeat its purpose.

When you have shit poor reception, that means bad quality sound. When you have a great antenna with killer reception, you can pick up great quality sound even from fm with no fade outs or pops, etc, comparable to 160k mp3. A lot of FM radio in my area sounds better than that compressed satellite crap. But hey, if someone isn't an audiophile, they should just stick with their broke power antenna and call it a day, maybe add some tin foil for good measure. I for one didn't spend loot on a system only to cede some functionality to a substandard antenna.

Difference in opinion I suppose. Being an audiophile myself, I woudln't touch FM radio if I was at all concerned with sound quality. But then again a 256k mp3 doesn't feel quite right to me either.

I have no doutb you get good reception with your new antenna and thats what the thread is about. :thumb:

I guess I was talking FM relative to FM for sound quality, not vs mp3 or cd. After my antenna broke, I put a piece of clear tape on it to keep the rain out and decide what I wanted to do about it. This took about 6 months. During that time I found that I did miss FM sometimes when I got tired of my own cds or had someone in the car who liked different music.

Btw, I listen to 192k mp3s which is pretty good quality so you must be more particular than me. But I can't sample my own any higher since I listen to underground downtempo/triphop from pretty obscure artists and have to rip internet streams or convert napster to get them.

If you are worried about quality, why do you care about FM, its all commercials anyway. Get CDs, hook up your mp3 player, have satellite radio.

I barely waste my time on FM, and yes I do care about quality, 4-channel amp to Alpine Type-R components with 6x9s, a seperate amp for my rear subs when I have them in.

However, I live in NOVA which has great reception no matter what, so my fix works great without having that ugly antenna, and as I said, I really dont use it that often.

Because FM is one aspect of every radio's features. And I don't like intentionally crippling one option available to me. And like I said, other people don't necessarily like your type of music and would prefer listening to the radio.

I had those alpines and didn't like them. Anything they sell at best buy or sound advice is a warning sign. Infinitys much better but the magnets are too large for 6x9s in the rear. But a mallet fixes that problem. The alpines fit easy with their tiny magnets and low profile.

Infinities are actually easier to fit, I had trouble fitting the alpines and yes had to use a mallet to fit them in the rear. Plus I got them for 50 a set new. I am not trying to start a speaker argument, but DO check out the alpines again, you may be mistaken, as the infinitys are sold at best buy and yes they do have smaller magnets than the alpines, unless your talking about the high-end infinity which gets hundreds of dollars for a set of speakers real quick.

Infinity kappas and perfects. No bestbuy or sound advice around here sells them. Their magnets are huge and I shit you not, about 50% larger in mass and weight to those alpines. I had to beat the tar out of my wheel well to get them to fit. The alpines dropped right in and I only put those in because when I had the system installed the infinity's wouldn't. The alpines were a stop gap measure until I could figure out a way to fit the inifinitys...I didn't want to use a mallet originally.
