Possible timing issues?

I have a 1991 Eagle talon TSI and have read some threads on here and went through my owners manual and I'm really hoping that all of my issues are around timing which should be a simple fix.

1. Car does not want to turn over after running a while, multiple attempts at crank over will eventually cause it to start.
2. Rev jumping right after initial start and will sporadically happen throughout longer drives.
3. Car will accelerate to 4500R RPMS without issue, 4500 to 5500 bogs out, after 5500 RPMS it picks up like a champ.

Can anyone validate the likelihood of these being attributed to my timing being off?

If your timing was off you wouldn't be running bro. Sounds like a boost leak or time for a tune up. Unless your not talking about mechanical timing meaning timing belt, but are asking about base timing? Please clarify??

As for #1, could be a bad starter that gets hot and does not want to engage the flywheel. #2 could be several things, but on start up it sounds like idle surge caused by the TB and #3 check your knock sensor.

No I was talking about mechanical timing. I bought the car for roughly 1k and a lot of the previous work was rigged so I have a lot of rip and replace to day. I will check for boost leaks this weekend. You're right, I probably really need to get an overall tune-up done on the car.

That would at least probably pinpoint a lot of my issues and allow me to dig into them. The car also came with an ECM and per comments on the paperwork it looks like it was set up for 93 octane. I've been running 91 in it due to 93 being hard to find here.

Finally the car appears to be an E85 flex and I may have a plugged fuel filter if they actually ran E85 in it which would lead to possible fuel pressure issues.

Any suggestions on how to test the starter? I can take it off and take it to an autoparts store but how would I heat it up?

Weak Temp Sensor can cause these issues also. Any CEL lights ?

No but the person that had the car before me rigged it pretty hard core. They removed the factory fans to route a front mount intercooler and piping and put in a small aftermarket fan in front of it.

I constantly check the temp and it stays cool but who knows with their wiring.....they could have disabled a lot of the CEL.

If you were running e85, you'de probably have a big fuel system to move it properly. You might want to find out more info about your car to aid in your maintenance and mods.

The E85 was ran by 3 owners back which from what i can gather kept all of his mod receipts. I reviewed all of them but did not find any fuel system upgrades. I'm going to pull it apart one weekend and check to see if its clogged.
