Ok so here is my thinking at this very time. I know that all input i get will be all opinions but they are most welcome.

Some info on the car at hand.
1996 Eclipse GSX
5 Speed LSD AWD
No engine mods 100% stock
Body is in most excellent condition as well as interior

Thinking about going with a OEM rebuild

Concerns: Money wise i know it will run about the same as a used JDM spec motor but with that you are flipping a coin no matter where you buy. I have spent several days googling companies, and with that prices, then matching those prices to reviews which all have about the same 50/50.

Other concern: I do believe my block has a crack in it. There is a really odd placed Phillips 10mm screw sticking out of my block behind my alternator below the cooling aluminum line. Around this screw is a build up of shinny silver almost looks like sader, and around that is a dark tint of black with sludge brown (oil) oozed in lime green liquid (anti freeze). Now there are no freeze plugs in this location from the researched i have looked up and gathered. I have put a good hard look on the freeze line around that location and i cannot find any seepage in this location.

I will be trying to gather prices for a standard rebuild with pistons, machine quotes, bearings and valve work. At this current junction i will be having roughly 1000 to 1500 to spend on rebuilding and i know its easily achievable because i will be using a lot of OEM parts from the engine now.

Current situation is: Possible cracked block. 200,000 miles. AFR very spastic and i have replaced every sensor this engine has and trouble shot every issue this could be possible with tons of money invested and have achieved nothing. I have some valves going out since my idle vacuum is around 8-10 and flutters hard and under throttle it goes to about 12-13, under boost is 20-25 while still fluttering.

Discuss my possible venues. I have thought of a used JDM spec engine for around 1300 shipped from several vendors and i have also done some research into rebuilding from trusted sites like extremepsi, dsm grave yard and such. But would like a couple more opinions here before i just jump.

Routes i want to take: 300 to 400 awhp and no spray. Looking to keep this as a DD not a track car. Looking to possibly going to E85 since my employer produces it.

Small update: SunriseJDMMotors 4G63T delivered to my door with lift gate and all Customs ect... 1700 "We warranty all our JDM engines and transmissions with 100% start-up, for unlimited mileage or 30 days for head and block whichever comes first." http://www.sunrisejdmmotors.com/warranty.php and i also grabbed a copy of their warranty information.

More Info: Going to sadly park my baby in the garage and do one last compression test and leak down test before tearing the head of and inspecting the Piston tops, valves, and cams (scores if any). I would really like to tell my self i just have to re ring the pistons and re finish the valves and have them seated with new seals. But again in a perfect world :)

if its a cracked block go to a junk yard buy a 6 bolt rebuild-able core engine for 150 get a short block rebuild from a place like city motor supply then put you 7 bolt head on and you will be happy and save alot of money

Back a couple of years ago i tried finding a 6 bolt. Spent about 6 months looking and couldn't even find a 4G63 in any local junk yards. I have found out it is not a crack but a main oil plug for my balance shaft. So as of the end of this month i am going to pull my motor and send it to my machinist to rebuild. They use ITM and Clevite and warranty everything they do from top to bottom. He quoted me around 1550 to 2000 for a complete rebuild only re using my cams (going new 272), crank (polished) and my rods (but they will be reconditioned). Now since i have known him and we grew up together i can go to the shop before i go to work for a couple hours and help with my engine and reduce the price even more. I have been trying to find a killer deal on maybe a rotating assembly but havent found much in my budget range since after the rebuild ill have $1,000 to $500 left over from what i have put away.
