A couple of years ago i had a local machine shop build a motor for me. Eagle rods and CP pistons i believe. Could be wrong on the pistons. The engine has around 2000 miles on it.
Over the last couple of weeks it has developed a developed a knocking noise. Very light knocking but using a stethoscope it is coming from the bottom end. So I pulled the pan and pulled some rod caps. Cylinder 2 seemed to be the worst looking. I guess my question is does this bearing look bad enough to be causing a knock. I guess i was expecting worse. Dont have any experience building motors.
Also if anyone has any suggestions to have it looked over in the New England area.

I think you meant to say rod caps, not cam caps. It looks like that motor has seen dirt and maybe a lot of cold starts for only 2K miles. Also there should be 4 pairs of bearings, number them 1-4 and label top and bottom. It helps piece together the wear patterns. I only see 4 halves, not sure what cyl they belong to.

If it has rod knock, you should see heat in the bearing/cap and scoring on the bearing. If it’s bad, heat and scoring on the crank too.

yes I did mean rod caps. I should have pulled them all at once and gotten photos but it was late and had no way of marking them.
The 3 pictures of the bearing halves are the top on cylinder two. The picture of the two caps number 2 is on the right and number 3 on the left. There is a noticeable difference in color.
I’ll get photos of them all this weekend and post them. Should have done that first.
I don’t drive it much but I always let it warm up before I drive it.
Thanks for taking the time

Since it is an automatic, check the flex plate. We had one crack a web and made rod knock noises in a 97 Spyder.
I'd almost put my money on that. ;)
