I was doing some research on diesel turbos just seeing what turbos come on what year trucks because I'm putting a WH1C on my car and just wanted to be informed. Anyways, I found out that the 04.5+ Dmax's and 6.0 Powerjokes come with GT37's on them. Now the 6.0 turbo is not as big as the LLY (04.5-06) Duramax one so that's the turbo I'll be mainly talking about. Now I found out it has a 63.5mm inducer and 88mm exducer on the compressor wheel which would put it up there with the GT4088R which it 64.7/88mm. I'm just trying to figure out if anyone has ever tried to make a junkyard hybrid out of a Dmax LLY compressor side with a standard garrett center and cold side, the backplate and wheel and everything should in theory bolt up to lets say a GT35 center cartridge and make a usable 70lb/min turbo for cheap. I looked up pics and everything I found makes the compressor side of the center cartridge on a GT35 center look exactly the same as the Dmax turbo which it should be, the center on GT35's and 37's are supposed to the same just Dmax's have extra stuff in them for the VGT which doesn't effect the compressor at all. Seems to me that buying a blown eBay GT35 and swapping with a LLY Dmax cold side and rebuilt with a Garrett GT35 shaft and turbine wheel would be the recipe for a cheap reliable 70lb/min turbo. Any input would be appreciated, I wish I had the turbo's in front of me then I could tell real quick if it would work or not.
