There is a canister close to the fire wall under the battery tray, I know it is part of the pollution control system. It has one line coming into it from the fuel tank with several vacuum lines that route to some solenoids on the fire wall. My question is are there any ill effects to removing it. I am pretty sure the computer doesn't measure flow or pressure in that system like the newer cars do. I am also wondering the same thing about the egr system. From looking at the lines and the solenoids I am sure it will not throw a CEL.

I want to remove this stuff to clean up the engine bay, I have done it on the 1g cars but they are obd1 and don't have sensors to check the pollution control systems.

If you don't have emissions then by all means remove it along with the mess of lines assioated with the emissions system. Cap off the nipples on the TB, keep the solenoids connected unless you have a means to turn off CEL codes. Block the EGR, tear out the canister (be sure to keep the check valve on the line going to the tank) and plug the nipple on the intake pipe that had a line going to the canister.

Ok thanks thats all I wanted to know.:thumb:

We don't have emissions testing here.

The only vacuum lines needed are for the BOV, wastegate, PCV, brakebooster (stock line has a check valve in it), and the FPR. None of the solenoids are needed but will throw a code if unplugged.

Make sure not to cap the vent line that comes from the canister and runs back to the tank. This needs to be vented to the atmosphere. Easy way is to run a vacuum line from the hard line back under the subframe so you don't have the fumes dumping into your engine bay.

Just a thought, why not hook this line up to the intake side of the turbo, that way fumes can get sucked into the intake.:hmm:

Yes I know this, but thank you for being help full, I was just a little unsure of the canister and the car throwing a CEL. :)

Haven't there been ill effects from doing this sometimes. I THINK I have read it before that people have experianced worse gas mileage. I'll have to check on it but I do think thats what made me not take my charchole canister out. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If anything my gas mileage got better after I removed my emissions stuff. There are absolutely no ill effects to removing all of it.

This would be unmetered fuel, and cause the car to run rich.

Fumes won't change the A/F ratio, if any thing I would think it would cause a lean condition from unmetered air through the fuel tank, But I think this is highly unlikely. I believe how the system works is it creates a vacuum in the fuel tank when the solenoids open. that is why when you open you fuel cap you some times hear a rush of air.

I am going to try it, I will let you know how it goes.

Fumes will create a rich condition. I have fixed more than one vehicle with a malfunctioning EVAP system either continuously purging or purging incorrectly, and almost always, you end up with rich codes and skewed fuel trims.

The car is a 97 talon with a 6 bolt swap with no emissions controls. they have all been deleted. The only thing left is the solenoids which I left plugged in so the car would not flag a CEL.

Ok so removed the evap canister and plumbed the left over line from the tank to the intake side of the turbo and it make's no difference in A/F trims, so my theory was correct and I don't have fumes under the vehicle.

I know it makes no difference because I can see the A/F ratio with my wide band gauge.

I am not disagreeing with what you are saying about evap systems, but these cars do not measure evap pressure or flow like on other and newer cars. all the computer knows is that the on off solenoids that control this system are connected, there is no pressure sensor.

Its been 2 days of driving and no CEL not even for the cas mod which makes me pretty happy. The car starts fine runs fine and no misfire so far, I know it is a common problem with the cas mod in a 2g car but from what I read it happens to some and not others. I guess it is just luck,LOL. :)
