I made this one public so it should work. Anyway, it sounds like a bearing is gone but I've heard of a super loud lifter tick.

What am I lookin at here? I've pulled it out already and tore into it. I always had good oil pressure (if not a bit high thanks to the balance shaft delete)

Started last night at the gas station and was about this loud this morning. Luckily it's not my daily driver so I have time.

Let me know please.

Mine just did this...everyone said it was a lifter, and everyone was wrong.

ive even tried swapping the bearing out just to see if it mite run for a little longer, and i got about 5 min out of it.

Your pan is most likely full of glitter, and your turbo is most likely full of metal as well.

I fell your pain man.

Have you tried the ol pulling sparkplug wire trick? May help rule out a rod bearing. From the vid it sounds like top end. The tod knock i had was much more solid of a sound. Not saying yours isnt a rod but just based on that vid i dont think itis. Pull the pan already man! Lets place some bets on this.

This is what you are most likely going to find.

Yummy. My rod knock sounds different than in that video. I'm pulling the valve cover off tomorrow to take a looky.

I'll see what I can do to pull the oil pan off. It's a pain in the butt down here where I live but I'll see what I can do.

I've already changed the oil unfortunately since this has started. But I'll see what I can from whats in the new thing of oil.

I'll post up tomorrow.

BTW, thanks for everyones help. Means a lot to me.

mine sounded dead on like that one morning(night before i did a pull on my car and accidently took it up too much in rpms)i took my lifters out and one of them was kinda stuck, re-bled them, started her up and it was still there just not as loud. after 15-20 miles it completely went away..

Your not going to figure anything out pulling off the valve cover. The pan needs to come off like you've been told over and over and over. It's not that much more work that pulling off the valve cover. Stop being a girl and just do it

Thank you for your very helpful and insightful input on the subject :thumb:. I'm sure the OP appreciates it.

He can for sure check things under the valve cover, it's possible it could just be a rocker and he doesn't need to pull the pan at all. Pulling the valve cover takes about five minutes and he can eliminate the top end from being the problem or figure out that it is.

Well I think I got it. Pulled off valve cover and found nothing wrong.

Pulled off oil pan and there it was..... nothing. Looked fine and no bad bearings.

I did find a very loose intake cam sprocket bolt which makes perfect sense. I'll update everyone after I put her back together.

As I mentioned in my PM to you.. The car can still run fine and be off two or more teeth on one gear. You need to get the lower timing cover off and see how the crank timing relates to the cam timing, that will be the tell all.

Once I top off the oil and check again for the noise then I will check the timing. If no more noise then I know the timing is still good. If I still have that tap then timing is the next check.

She's fixed. It was that cam sprocket bolt. I spent 8 hours on a 5 minute fix. I didn't see the bolt was loose until I was working out the last bolt in the oil pam. FML but yay she's fixed!

Everything is golden. Running like a champ. Gotta put the exhaust and transfer case back on and I'm going for a damned drive. She's got a full tank of premium and I'm looking to burn at least half of it.

Well, the drive got canceled but with everything back on and me listening carefully, the noise is completely gone.

Thanks for everyones help.

Yeah like rockers just end up bouncing around randomly. When you here knocking noises the first thing you do is check the pan. Who are you anyway noob?

Lmao @ the rocker, talk about brain not making it to the keyboard on my part but anyway I hope your aware that the thread was resolved and it was not within the pan ROFL.

Joel (This is who I am btw, you could have just read it on the last post too. If your in Canada sometime come hang out).

I did check the pan expecting to find a loose main but nothing. I rotated the engine and everything. This was 100% the camshaft sprocket bolt.

This is also bama nation. Roll Tide Roll!
