Im definitely not new to dsm"s iv'e owned a few in my younger days, now a little older i have finally found the car i could never forgive myself for selling! I have a 1992 talon TSI AWD with a tubular manifold, 14b off a manual, 3 inch cat back (stock downpipe and cat for now), MBC running about 14 psi, maf hack and no airbox with a k&n. My real question is a buddy gave me a free safc!! i know that it will probablly do me no good since i have a stock fuel system but i installed it anyway. With the mods i have what should i set it at? on the high low graphs i set everything to 0, on the high low percentage graphs its at 30low 70high.I did the 4cyl, karman and upper NE arrow settings already, i just need help with the other settings. Also my car is a A/T, so when i upgrade my injectors and fuel pump do i still need a manual ecu or will the safc tune my auto ecu? Any help would really be appreciated, i know nothing about the SAFC

The safc is not to tune your ecu. A safc recieves signal before the ecu does and changes variables. Then sends the reinterpreted signal to your ecu. You should be fine keeping your current ecu.

The SAFC just lies to the ECU when it comes to airflow, you turn down the amount the ECU sees, thus it uses less fuel to compensate for the bigger injectors that flow at a higher rate. If you can afford DSMlink I would suggest going with that, but if you want to try out the SAFC it also works pretty well, I have one on my 2G and it isn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to seem.

Now there will be some restrictions when tuning with an SAFC, the max injector size will be 720s, if you plan on running bigger injectors than that any time soon I would suggest DSMlink. Now you will also need a logger and an wideband to tune with, the wideband is something you definitely need, the logger is HIGHLY recommended.

Wideband get one of those, logger helps a log to actually see, dsmlink the price is cheaper if you call around for deals. Even with lite then upgrade as you need, its a investment in you car rather than a part.

There's nothing wrong with using an safc around a 14b or a 16g platform.

Just get something to read your afr's (aka wideband) and make adjustment points from there. There's some really good afc writeup's in the ecu/tuning section that explain how it works.

Thanks for the help guys it is much appreciated. Im going to get a MHI 16g, New downpipe, And wide band 02. What size injectors and fuel pump should i go with? and since i have an A/T do i need a manual ecu or will that safc compensate?

Not entirely sure, get some 650s or 660s, those should be fine. Also get a walboro 190lph fuel pump, or better yet, a 255lph. The 255 will support up to 600hp, so if you go bigger after you get DSMlink you have some good ground to expand without worrying about stressing the pump.

yes and no, you can use both, but not many people do. and dsmlink is a good tool for your car, but it all depends on your plans. im looking to just max out my 14b (if that), so an safc and a palm is perfect for me, but if you are looking to go big, then DSMlink would probably be good

The safc can control injectors 50% larger than stock. With 650s that puts you right around 47%. Too much bigger and you start to get timing advance.

I have friends that run 720s on their DSMs using an SAFC and have no huge timing advance problems. I stated that 720s are the max that an SAFC can run safely.

Thanks guys you info was really helpful. Guess ill just stay with my safc and get a palm logger. I only plan on doing a 16g with 550cc injectors and a 255 or 190lph fuel pump. So im still curious if im gonna be running 550's do i need to get a manual ecu or is my auto ecu fine?

Auto ECU is fine, I recommend 650s since you'll be maxing out the 550s in no time.
