ok I am doing a 6bolt swap to my 95 awd.... I ordered std piston ring and std main and rod bearing I have every gasket for the damb thing.... the reason that I ordered the std rings is because the rob brearing were not under size and same with the rings they were std and the block still had facorty hone marks so..tomarrow my rings come in and tonight after work I figured that I had better pull the pistons to get ready to put things back together and I must have over looked this when I took the head off but the pistons have slap marks were the intake valves hit all 4 pistons.. yet the valves have no scars. Should I replace the pistons and rebuild the head? Or just put it back together? My step dad took the head to his work " he is a 40 year exp deisel rebuilder" and said the head and valves were ok no leaks or play of any kind. I just need to know.. I have the money to get what I need. I just need to know from you DSM pros. Please let me know.. if pics are needed let me know. Thanks

i had the same thing on my 92 GS when my t-belt went at 3500rpm, except my head was screwed, then i discovered how bad the pistons got hit when i took the head off also. i thought id need new pistons, it had score marks from exhaust and intake on all 4. so i when i took em out i looked them over for cracks running through them, and to see if they smashed up agaisted the walls of the cylinder. they looked ok, but jus to be sure, i took them into the shop where i rebuilt my head at, and they hot tanked them and pressure tested them and said they were fine, for an extra $15. so id say as long as they dont have cracks or smashed to badly then you could reuse them, but id hot tank em and what not to be sure tho.

hope this helps

thanks.. I am taken them to a shop today to have that all done.. from what I can see there are no cracks and they are not smacked that bad...I think that someone turned the block by hand when it was out of time...or it happend at very low rpms. To be sake I am taken the pistons and the head to a shop. I thought about taken my 1g rods and a set of 2g pistons to the shop but I hear that it is like 300 to have that done. So I think that I will try to use what I have. Thanks again. Makes me feel allot better.
