tore apart my motor today to trouble shoot some excessive blowbuy ive been having. i took out the pistons to see how the damage was and the skirts seem to be victims to "piston slap". here are some pics of the cylinder walls and skirts.. do you guys think this will hone out? i will be installing new rings while i have the pistons out....

Piston slap happens when your PTW clearances are too large. If anything you would have more slap after honing since you are taking away more material. See what BogusSVO says if he comes by. He'll have a deffinate answer for you.

I would think bore and hone and new pistons. You could go cheezeball and do what some v8 guys I know have done which is knurl the skirts to take up the excess clearance but I wouldn't advice it.

well to find out if the whats going on, the pistons need to be mic'ed and the block, then figure out wht the true P2W clearance is.

the thing is with piston slap one of 2 things can happen, or both... the piston can collapse and/or you beat the cylinder out of round.

untill you do this measuring, or have it done.. there is no way to see if you can just "hone and go"

If the cylinders are still round, and the pistons are still in spec, but just have a bit too much P2W clearance, and on a tight budget you can knurl the pistons.

LiquidX.. guess your used to seing me in thes threads.....LOL maybe one day Ill leave the Ford camp and get a DSM

Haha yes I am, just about every thread that pops up that has some sore of machining questions you seem to come around. I mean hey, you know a lot more than I do with these issues so I'll reccomend you to be a main source of info for them. Of course, if you don't want me to point people your way I won't :thumb:

LiquidX.. Its all good, Its what I deal with daily, so I am used to it..
It cool that you do!
