Vancouver,
I have a 2.3l with JE pistons 15k KMs. the piston to bore clearance is loose( idunno the exact specs) as i have plans for around 450whp. i know JEs are know for piston slap due to the silicone content? but even when warm? it slaps to about 140F. after that temp i can free rev and will hear no slap. only when there is load on the engine on accel do i hear a faint piston slap type noise even when 220F. its not really loud but i notice it with stereo off. almost like pinging but more metalic.

is my engine screweded or is this normal for JE.
this must increase wear right?
i have 165 compression across when warm 8.5:1
will running ticker oil help? currently 10w30 Royal purple.
this is a daily driver.

Bumping your own threads is a big no-no in here. If your question isn't answered in a reasonable time frame, that's either because you're asking a really dumb question (not in your case) or the people presently viewing the forums don't know.

If a thread I post isn't answered, I usually PM one of the Mods and ask for their input. Try that.

I have Ross pistons in my motor, and they slap until they're warm. Forged pistons tend to expand and contract a lot more than cast pistons with heat & cold, hence why the slap goes away when the motor warms up. I have about 30k on that motor, with zero issues or shavings in the oil... ever.

ya my piston slap fades away but around 140F but im saying im hearing more piston slap on acceleration/load even when the engine is hot (220F) i dont want my bores and pistons to wear pe mature. thoughts?

I have JE's as well in my stroker and I here a small slap consitantly. I have about 3k miles on it now so well see if I make it to 10k haha

so do you think thats normal? or are you sayin it shouldnt be happening? since you think your engine wont last till 10k?

also, are you slapping even at idle when hot? or when under load when hot?

The small slap is normal, forged pistons expand with heat so that is why you can not hear it when it is warm, it is not really a big issue unless it is REALLY big.

Its normal because you have big clearances. I wouldnt be worried at all.
