scarborough,
i was installing my short throw shifter today, and found a wire comming form near the ecu and the connector looks like a female phone jack.is that the port for a dattalogger or something?if so is that mean i can just hook up a palm with the right software and i can turn? the car is stock right now.

You can't tune with just a datalogger. It only shows you what the engine is doing. You'd need a SAFC or DSMLink or something of that sort. I doubt what you found was the datalogger port, as it is down by your left leg when sitting in the driver's seat. Its right by the fuse box.

That phone jack is a code blue secret posi-trac satelite uplink for the shatter-proof bellhousing's exponents. ROFL ROFL Just Joking.

The post above mine is probably correct. Chances are that the previous owner had some sort of bass control knob/switch mounted near the driver's seat and it hooked to the external amplifier via that phone-jack looking cord.

If its not stereo related, it could be for an old hands free cell phone kit. In my first car back in the day I had a hands-free kit installed and the control unit was mounted by the ECU area. It used phone cable for the base unit.

I know some car sales lot install a device that shuts down the car if you dont pay your payment on time. Its for people with shitty credit. One of my buddys had it and it looked like a phone jack so if you dont pay your car shuts down.

Damn, that's just mean :toobad:

On a personal note, when I bought my car, I found a few coaxial cables running from behind the radio to various places throughout the car, including underneath the headliner....... WTF

I had a phone jack in my car for my stereo system, it was pretty cool to have three different ways to adjust the power going to your subs: cd player, bass controller(used the phone jack), and the amp it self using the gain controls.

They're watching you..... OMG :p

Haha, for real. I was like  WTF

I don't even know what coax cables could possibly be used for in a DSM....It's not like they were trying to run TVs through the whole car (I'd hope not at least :toobad: )

here is a pic of the phone jack i was talking about...i also found more wires on the driver side by the fuse box, looks like is running toward the back.

thats not for a bass boost switch i too was thinking so untill i had seen the pics. that looks like there used to be a car phone in it. thats the only thing i can think of. but all the bass boost switched are is a male phone plug into the amp and a male plug into the switch. on a regular phone wire.

Thats not a regular phone jack, thats an RJ-45 jack which is the same port network cables use. Not that it changes anything...but theres 6 pins in that, and up 2-4 pins in a regular phone jack (RJ-11)

Damn, I never heard of that before. I don't know if I can really see that happening (Sounds like 2F to 2F stuff to me). I'm sure most Dsm'ers could easily disable that system if that was the case.
