I'm in the process of polishing my headlight lens, and they are peeling like it has some clear coat. I started out with 600 grit, but cant get this off. Should I step it up to 320?

I worked with what I had. I stepped it up to 220 grit, then stepped down to 600 grit, then down to 2000 grit. Not bad considering hhow they were. I'm satisfied. I'll polish it a bit more though.

Polish them with a good clear plastic polish, mothers makes one, I like Novus they offer a number 3 heavy scratch remover, number 2 light scratch remover and a number 1 polisher. I get mine from boaters world. It's available at most marine stores if you have one near you. Boaters use it for cleaning the clear plastic curtain enclosures on there boats.

I would recommend that you do clear coat them when they are finished to help protect your polishing efforts.

Wow, that is a big step from 600 to 2000 grit. I would've used a few in between. And then hit it a few times with some Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish.

If you want to keep them looking nice, get some Ventureshield. It's kind of like those clear bras you see on the high end sports cars. It applies like window tint and provides a protective coating. This is recommended by azdave, who has used this plenty of times with great results. He said he tried a few clear coating options, but they all yellowed to some extent.

I use This, But the number 6 grit before Mothers polish.

It works Great! for getting out the stubborn marks left by the paper.

Then use Plast-X to finish it off.
