Alright, so with minimal space I finally got the leverage to pull the axle out...now I can't get the new one back in. I can see where the circlip is getting scratched from trying to compress, but it just doesn't want to slide all the way back in.

Does anyone have any suggestions on getting this thing to go? I've tried a rubber mallet and putting something against the side of the cup and tapping to no avail. Any other ideas?

TIA

Put your balls into it.

Make sure the clip is compressing and not binding, then give her hell. Make her scream your name.

Have the strut bolted to the knuckle and the balljoint undone.

Pry the lower control arm clear of the knuckle

Put the axle nut end of the axle in the knuckle and swing the knuckle/axle combo into the tranny

You may have to undue the tie rod end, may not.

Thanks, I needed that. LOL

Most of this is done so I'll see about getting it slipped in. I'm millimeters away now so maybe the last thing is the lower control arm...

Make sure you have the right axle too. Hold them up to each other and make sure they are the same length. I swore up and down I had the right axle until I compared the lengths.

Once you have a straight shot at it, push like hell. It will go...believe...

After wondering why the hell it wouldn't go in I compared length and girth. For once not being bigger than another was a good thing. ;)

I finally got to work on it again tonight. I ended up putting the axle into the hub, and then jacked the hub up to get it inline with the strut. After putting the bolts in the strut, I was probably a 1/2 inch further than I had been trying to push the damn thing in. I put the axle nut on backwards and gave it a few taps with a rubber mallet. Hearing the click of that damn pin made my night.

Thanks everyone for the help and encouragement. What a serious PITA!

Just great and I got to do one of these on my car in the next week or so. Hopefully I dont have any problems.
Honestly, I think it's just the first one. The next one should be much smoother. It also would have been nice to have some help. Trying to reach under the car and hold the prybar while also trying to get my foot on it without it slipping was a real bi***.
