I have a GST and want to replace the driver side axel due to a leak.

I bought one for the passenger side also, but when I recieved them, they look exactly the same. Are they the same part?

does it matter how the ring goes in? I can't remember if the side with the metal ring goes in or it's on the outside. and it's really hard to get it in, so am I supposed to bang it in? I don't want to damage the ring.

thanks for your help.

Ok, figure that the side with the metal ring goes inside. But I still can't get this sucker in there. anyone has a trick to this. This is frustrating.

Yes, they are the same part. The spring goes on the inside. Yes, you're going to have to use some force to get it in. Some people say to use a large socket to hammer on, but I don't have any that big. So I had decent luck reusing the old seal and a piece of wood over the new seal, then using a rubber mallet on it. When you install it make sure you don't put it in too far. There should be some sticking out.

ok, thanks for the tip. That's gonna be a PITA laying under the car, but let's try it.

The funny thing is that the engine was out of the car a week ago for the rebuild and my cheap ass didn't replace a $6.00 seal. Now i'm under the car.
