I'm pretty sure it's ok to boost 20 psi daily on a 50 trim, but am growing ever paranoid about the condition of the headgasket.

will my motor [good compression and good leakdown] be able to survive the abuse of an occasional boost to 20 psi [I dont drive like an idiot] with my 50 trim? I'm thinking ARP headstuds and a new headgasket is in the future.

I know it's definitely a safety precaution I should take, and will take, but do you guys think it will be ok for the time being to run my setup with stock headgasket and headbolts?

If your honestly worried about ur head gasket then turn the boost down some..plain and simple. that way you dont haveto worry about making a 2nd through 4th pull at 20psi on stock Hg and Hstuds..

CanadianTsi is running 22-23 psi on stock HG and head bolts. It all comes down to the individual car and the parts. My HG went on a stock setup ....so who's to guess what will happen.

point i was making is he is Worried.... so take the worry away.. turn down the boost.. like u said ,, it may or may not every car is diff.. but he should turn in down if he is that worried..

I'm not too worried, I posted to just get some feedback from some guys. From the research I've done, 20 psi should be no problem since my motor *seems* to be in good shape. 103k with occasional abuse, she should be fine.

anyway, I've decided to go ahead and order ARP headstuds/mitsu metal HG with my next paycheck JUST BECAUSE I want to have peace of mind. :thumb:

you nkow you can just throw in the headstuds without taking off the head if you replace them one at a time that should give you some confidance right there. If you want(shamelss plug) I have a set of brand new arp 7bolt headstuds at my house i'll sell you for cheap.

Oh and don't forget when you use the mitsu metal headgasket you have to get your head milled and the same with the block you want to make absolutely sure that the surfaces are flat so that the gasket seals properly.

I run 20-21psi daily and I can't say I baby it...LOL I do take care of her though. Oh and I have about 98,000 miles on mine.
With you saying your engine is in good condition, what it's going to come down to is your state of tune(knock, etc).
Good luck

Indeed I do run 22-23psi on my 50 trim daily, this is on a bone stock motor with 215,000kms.

I Figure the headgasket and studs are going to need to be done anyways so if I blow it i'll have a reason to do it.
