MBC= too much boost (20+PSI!!!?) HELP!

First i will start out with what happened and what i did.

-2 nights ago I installed my new UICP with 1G BOV (crushed)
I then took the car for a test run, car ran fine, was just like before no problems.

-next day (yesterday) i went to install my new manual boost controller (busta boost controller.. http://www.members.tripod.com/Busta-bc/busta.htm )

I disconnected the BCS (except the electronic plug) and had a hose from my Waste gate and turbo directly going into the mbc (the same ones that were "T'd into the BCS)

So I take it on a little test run to adjust boost and what not. So I go and i notice its hitting 20+ PSI, so i pull over and turn the screw out.. Still 20 PSI, so i pull over again, and let it out ALL the way before it falls out. STILL 20+ PSI, than my "flex" pipe going to my intake manifold pops off.... so i chug home and get that fixed. and car starts to run "fine" again.

The boost is still way to high no matter what I do. Before i installed the MBC I was only getting around 11-12 psi.


Also, Now I am getting a "hissing" noise comming from the intake manifold, I never noticed it before so i dont think it is normal?

AND I hear a whine, beep like sound comming out of my intake filter when i let off tthe gas (sounds like a Weeeeeee) but have now clue what it is..?

It sounds like to me you have the mbc plummed backwards.Make sure you have the pressure source going into the bottom of it and the wastegate side goes into the side fitting.
 
Im pretty sure i do have them right, but i was thinking maybe the same thign thsi morning. will go check :)
 
have you done a boost leak test since the install of the MBC. the sound from the intake could be your injector seals or a gasket for the throttle body or intake manifold. Try the boost leak test and let us know how it turns out.

you shouldnt be unscrewing the knob in order to reduce your boost you should be tightening the screw almost to the point of it being closed not to the point where it is almost falling out

That is incorrect.You screw it in to up the boost and out to lessen the boost.When you screw it in your blocking off the air to the wastegate,which then makes more boost.You should make sure you know what your talking about before you give mis information that could do some serious damage.
 
i havnt done a boost leak test yet (no time to make the test/ do it)
Also some more info. I routed the line from the turbo directly into the wastegate to see if the wastegate is working, and it hink it is, as it only goes to 10 psi.
And the hoses that went into the mbc were correct.

Just wondering is it safe to run just off the wastegate (temporarly) as i dont want to hook the bcs yup again :p. I thionk it is as it is only getting 10 psi, which is better than the 20+ i got with the MBC. this way i can atleast get boost on the way to work ;)
 
It's safe to run directly from the compressor housing to the wastegate. As you've seen, it limits boost pretty effectively. If any of your friends have an MBC that you could borrow, put it on and see what happens.

Some manual boost controllers, the TurboXS MBC's in particular, require you to turn the screw counter-clockwise (unscrewing) to raise boost. I'm sure there are other MBC's that do this also. It's quite possible wcpeirson assumed all MBC's operated like that.

Yes I do now remember the turbo xs being that way.I think most of the joe p style controllers are opposite of that.I suppose you could get confused.
 
The loud "Weeeeee" you hear when you let off the gas is your BOV recirculating. If you have hard pipes now instead of the stock system, it is much louder. It was doing it before, but you couldn't hear it.

You should be able to connect the hose from the MBC to your compressor housing up to a vaccuum/pressure tester and see at what pressure your MBC triggers your wastegate actuator.
 
over boosting is fixed, thanks for the help.
Turns out somethign was up witht he screw to adjust. I just fiddled with it now its fine.
 
hey guys, i know this post is old, but i am having the same problem. My 2g is boosting to 15+ with my mcb turned all the way up, and turned all the way down. I checked mine compared to what was diagramed and the bottom hose from the mbc goes straight the the waste gate, but the side hose goes to a hose connected to the bov. this is right? i thought it was supposed to go to the turbo... thanks
 
Ok, I was wrong. Its the other way. The side goes to the waste gate but the bottom goes the the BOV. How do I get it to the turbo? Where does it connect?

right infront of the BOV. is that right? if no, where is it supposed to go?

There should be no tee in the line to the BOV at all. One complete, unmolested line should run from the intake manifold to the BOV. The line coming from the bottom of the boost controller should connect to either the compressor cover of the turbo, or on the piping shortly after it. Did you use an aftermarket J-pipe with your turbo? Was there a niple for a VAC line? If not, you are going to have to get it drilled and tapped to accept a niple fitting that you can buy at autozone or any hardware store.
 
Wow, I see multiple T's in that bov line. Get rid of anything T'd to that line ASAP. Also I hope that BOV is recirculated.
