palm os emulator

Can you run the os emulator with the pocketlogger program on a 2g on a laptop?
I have the emulator on the laptop with the obdII on fine. The problem is I cant get it to do anything when I hooked it up to the car. I got a cable with two female endds to conect wtih the logger cable to the the lap top, but its not a null modem cable. Do I need the null modem cable to make it work?

you also need to make the palm emulator use the serial port(COM1)

So it will work? How do I change the it to serial port? Just change the settings? Null modem cable is needed?
