palm data logging

After much debate, I am going with a gm maf-t setup. I want to data log with a palm logging tool since I don't want to run 10's or 11's, and the fact that I am poor, I know ebay sells the kit, but I have no clue of the workings of it, such as what computer system it is compatible with. Someone told me I need windows 98 ???. Do I need a wideband 02. Any and all info would be greatly helpful. Would I need a laptop? eprom ecu w/a chip?


my setup is going to be:
1) Evo 3 16g
2) evo 3 exhaust mani
3) evo3 or tubular external dump 02
4) wally 190 lph
5) Evo 510 or 560 injectors
7) punishment racing fmic.
8) afpr.
9) 2.5" exhaust str8 thru
10) 3" gm maf and maf-t
11) 2.5" dp
12) 3" intake /w/ k&n

I am probably forgetting something.

my Goal is 300-350 hp on pump 91 with no more than 15-18 lbs boost.
any and all help is greatly appreciated.

You can pick up a compatible palm on ebay for less than $20 if you shop around. The cable is around $25-30 as well. MMCD is a free program that works on 1gs

(8)You won't need an afpr with the 190lph pump.
(9,11)I would probably just go 3" and be done even though 2.5" should meet your goals
(2,3)You can use a ported 2g manifold/o2 housing if you find them cheaper.
I definitely recommend getting a wideband for ease and accuracy of tuning.
(5) Go with a larger injector than 550cc especially if you run a custom eprom. Maft will be able to compensate pretty good up to 650cc. If you run a custom chip, you can go larger than that and have room to grow. I'm not saying 550cc aren't capable of low 300whp, though
(10) There are a million tuning options for 1g, so i'm not going to get into this topic, but, If you are insisting on going with the GM maf and MAFT, look into the GEN2. It has much more options than the original and you can still run 1g/2g mas as well. Has the "Target A/F" option when used with a wideband

It will depend on your palm software.
Years back I had a very old palm and it wouldn't "hotsync" because I had XP and the software wasn't compatible, it was for like windows95
It's something to search into as far as Vista. See if you can find any free downloads that will work with it.
Also you will need a palm that you can buy a serial(db9) cable so it can plug into the datalogging cable

EvoScan can log via laptop on 1gs and is pretty affordable. You may want to look into that and its compatibility with Vista

Thanks guys. One other question, my heart is set on running gm maf-t setup. I have also decided to run a eprom and chip. My question is have your heard of people having trouble with this combo? Some one told me I should run a 2g mass and 550 injectors with a chip. They said it would be alot easier to tune and less headaches. I know you guys have been doing this longer than I have and probably had experience with both. In ## opinion which would be better suited for a newbie? I already have the gm maf-t, I could sell it though. One other thing. One guy said keep the gm maf-t setup and go with an eprom and chip, then use apexi safc to fine tune it with. Is this really needed? Thanks and sorry for so many ????s

It is said that the GM maf has a "wandering" tune.
You will be plenty fine with the 2gmas. If you purchase the Maf-t Gen2 for fine tuning, you could still use your 2gmas with it and go to GM maf if your heart desires in the future. It will be effective up to 650cc injectors too.

I've got a eprom with a custom chip and only use the MAFT to fine tune the setup at the track. Getting the eprom programmed to compensate for my 550 injectors definitly helped with the "wandering" tune. I only have real issues when the weather changes (spring to summer etc).

I definately suggest running an AFPR. Stock fuel pressure on the 1G is 37.5 psi and is 43 for the 2G. With the larger injectors I would invest in an AFPR.

I'm running nearly the same setup. 560cc, walbro 190lph, AFPR, 2G MAS, 3in catless with 2.5in dp. I raised my fuel pressure to 43 psi as well. I just sent my ECU to have my KeyDiver Stage 3 chip installed. It ran pretty good without the chip, but I didn't really want to push it without the correct fuel maps. I don't have much experience with the MAF-T setup but I know a lot of people do it so it obviously does a good job.

As for newbies, I would run the EPROM ecu with a chip from DSMChips. I'll post up how it goes when I get my ecu back.

-edit- I also run the MMCD on a palm. I paid just under $100 for the setup shipped. It came with the palm and installed software, cd for the softare on your computer, cable to plug into the diagnostic port in your car, and charging dock station. I just don't have the old school port on my laptop that's provided so I'm still working on that. Works great. Just go to ebay and type in Data Logging Kit.

I was running a chip combo for awhile. I didn't really get to tune it since my car is usually down for something or another.

BUt for the time I did run it, the car pulled amazing. Launching it was even better, you should seen the first time I turned on the windshield wipers on .

I ran a 680's chip and I had 880s in the car. No tuning at all with the afc zero across the board, and it pulled like a beast. I used a logger setup and a AEM wideband too for even more safety.

I read you can datalog the AEM wideband with some software too but I never got around to trying it
