Painting Couplers

Maybe heating the Coupler before painting, It might take the paint a little deeper.

I paint my 1g gray front timing belt cover with black paint.
I heat it up, painted and reheated again.
After it dried, I scratched it, and the scratch was black.

The Black paint went deeper then I thought.

It came up nice.

I thought plastidip was clear?

I thought its better to post in another thread than make a whole new one.

Anyway I figured spray paint wont work. Ill try plastidip

People always cry foul if you don't use the search feature, but when you bring up an old thread they also cry foul... pretty much damned if you do or damned if you don't. Anyway, I think dyeing them may be the only option with any chance of success(slim at that) but ultimately just buying the right ones is probably the best bet.

If you are broke and want black couplers...buy diesel radiator hose. I've used this on a few projects and have actually gone to the parts store to get a car back on the track before, works like a charm, won't swell, and is cheap as hell. It'll make you wanna slap yo mama.

Yea I looked at plastidip today it does come in black, i read the truck hose before to i think.

My advise to you is save the hassle, just order new couplers. Make sure you order nice ones. A friend of mine ordered cheap couplers and they were nice at first, then he turned up the boost and they would blow off all the time. mind you he wasn't running like 30psi, he only went from 10 to 14psi. just my 2 cents...

I've never thought about that. That's actually an awesome idea haha.

Sorry to bring this back after another year, but has anyone actually done the Plastidip painting of the couplers? Any pics?

Sorry no pics, but Plastidip works great.
The engine bay shot in my gallery has a red coupler that I sprayed painted black. It looks better than the ic pipe it's attached to but I don't think those would be your typical results. Plastidip is much much more durable.

Can you paint the couplers? Answer is yes, you can apply paint over anything that you want to.
The Reality? The paint that you apply to those couplers is not going to stick for very long may even fisheye upon application. Reason being those couplers are made out of silicone. Silicone is what is found in tire shine. Ever tried to paint something after applying tire shine to the area? It doesn't end up so well. But if buy chance yours are either made out of a different material or magically hold the paint on, you have no way of properly preparing the surface for whatever type of paint that you choose to use, and all the pressure, vibrations, and temperate changes that will be going on in your engines compartment that paint will have no other choice but to crack or peel up. I wouldn't waste my time with painting, I would just go online and find a company that makes better quality than the ebay ones, in the color that you are looking to use.
