My build will be a high revving 2.0 going for about 580whp.

The "assumed" route is to go with a shep stage 3 and call it good, but I was wondering if anyone has used any competitor brands and has good recommendations; brands like TMZ, Jacks, TRE, etc.

Opinions for who I should go with, hopefully with first hand experience?

I'm going for 600, and I was going with the Shep stage 3.
Do you have any reasoning to back your choice or is it just because they're pretty?

I used a TRE on FWD for years and a friend is running a TRE on AWD and the only thing he breaks area driveshafts and axles, (and center diffs but that's upgraded now too)

both of our shifted perfect at 9k RPM, ine on an an ACT 2600 and his on a 3500 twin disk setup, great transmissions, he puts a lot of hand detailing into every component

How much whp was being ran on the AWD one?

I haven't heard anything but good news about them.
Please stop posting on this thread because you haven't read my initial question.

Not only do you not have the transmission yet, but you don't even have first hand experience with one. And i'm not trying to be a d*ck but nothing you've posted has been helpful in the least bit.

My transmission was built here in Costa Rica... But all technical information required was provided by Tim Zimmer from TMZ Performance...

He also sent me most of the new parts for my transmission (bearings, needle bearings, torrington bearings, etc), including a new Pressure Plate and Kevlar Disc...

Even though my transmission was not built 100% by TMZ Performance, I feel very happy with their customer service, the shipping and handling, and the products I purchased from them!

I would give them call...

How long have you been driving on the transmission? I got to meet Zimmer at shootout and he seemed like a legit guy, so I just wanted to hear some experience with their products.

I'm still breaking in the clutch kit... so far 550 miles at low boost (12 psi)... In february (once I'm done with the break in proccess) I'm going to go for 20psi in the Evo 16g turbo

I followed Tim's advice for a good road racing / daily driven transmission, in the street so far it feels very good, smooth pedal feel, smooth shifting, but I will put the transmission to its limits on Feb 12th on a track day... I will let you know if you're still interested after that day...

Something I can tell you now, is that I added the 3rd/4th double syncros and they make a huge difference compared to my previous stock AWD transmission! I definitely recommend that mod!

I am on my second TRE transmission. The first was a Stage2 build that I ran 40k miles making about 300AWHP most of the time and beating the hell out of it with NLTS. Shortly after I built the 2.3 and increased to 450AWHP the 3/4 gear hub exploded. I worked with Jon and he built me a Stage 4 trans that has now been in my car for about 3000 miles and no complaints.

Jon at TRE is a bit hard to get a hold of but once he is working on your transmission you get amazing customer service.

With that said I'm sure the high end transmissions from any of the big trans builders will work.

My donniekak stage eleventy billion trans shifted fine at 8500 rpms.
You would break parts on your transmission that I didn't know could be broken..

Oh and I had to learn from rich you sold the panda. Now we're both dsm less :p

And you're moving to the east coast... ya douche

Tmz is a great place to deal with. Very professional and courteous. I needed a Tob and clip from him. I went over to his house and he even gave me a personal lesson on how and whats in a ttranny. Love the guy and if ever need a rebuild will go to him for SURE!

If you really make 580whp and use it, it won't matter who's trans you get. It will need worked on often.

My AWD has a TRE in it and has been in it for over 3 years. Car made 385awhp the first 2 years and the past year made 498awhp. Trans has around 5k miles on it and is only driven when raced. Havent had one issue with it.

Im currently having Jacks rebuild my daily driver gst trans. After i get that installed and a few miles on it i can give you some feed back on that. Jacks customer support is amazing also. Very quick replies and answer the questions with out talking in circles.

Would stray away from shep. Seen a lot of imperfections in his gearsets, and a lot of failed transmissions.

TMZ is my first and only choice for everything.
Write him a pm or give him a call and tell him what your needs are. He will get somethin worked out for you! Plus youre supporting WI economy when you support him.....xD

Ive had 1 Tmz rebuild. Still is brand new inside after a year of abuse.

I have a awd TRE stage 3 with almost 20,000 miles on it. My car sits right at 400 tq which is the more important number than hp when it comes to transmission reliability. My trans still shifts smooth as the day I got it. I have NEVER had and issue getting it into any gear at any rpm. I don't shift above 8k though since I have a 2.4 but it holds up to the tq curve that comes on fast and hard with my setup.

Dogbox is no longer in business from what I have heard.

Aside from that most of the parts used to "build" a Trans other than a Dogbox gear set are the same OEM parts. To say Shep gear sets were imperfect is just silly.

Picking a transmission builder is best decided by who you feel comfortable with and will work with you in cases of failure. Tmz or Shep would be my choice, but I would more than likely build it myself if doing it over.

P.S. I have a Shep stage 4, REM treated, 4 spider diff, taller 1st, etc.
