Opinion of SCAT Rods?

I just bought a 4G64 100mm crank and I am going to intall it in my 4G63 Block. I was going to use my stock 1991 Rods, but I am thinking of using SCAT rods that only cost $269 and are supposedly good for 600HP.

Should I stick with stock or go with Scat rods? I am definitely not getting Eagle or other rods it is not worth the $$$

Hopefully someone who knows can comment because I can't post in the other section.

Depends on what kind of hp numbers your going for. your stock rods may be just fine but if your looking for over 300whp you might as well get the scat rods or the eagle rods. i was in the same situation as you. i ended up getting eagle rods and a better set of bearings too. good luck

300hp and upgraded rods? I don't think you'll need upgraded rods if thats your goal. The stock big rods will go over 400, and would be fine for 3-400 I think. If you're going over 400, I'd probably get some better ones though. As for Scat rods, I've never heard much about them.

Even if your goal isn't over 400 hp it never hurts to invest in a little insurance. The age of yours rods also has an effect on their life. Rods don't just blow out because you added more power.

I can understand the "better safe than sorry" mentality but to be horrible honest I think it is way over done with most DSM owners. I see people with built motors and awesome strokers wth big turbos and then there times and dyno sheets reflect most 16G cars. Not only that but 95% of DSM owners are younger and just dotn have alot of money or experiance. With that, they have dreams of 400-500 AWHP and they start to build a car for that. They quickly run out of money and end up qith a built short block and a 16G.

Be 100% honest with youself and see what you true goals are. If you truly think you will get your car over 400 AWHP then go ahead and buy the Scat rods. If you think it may be sketchy or it may be along time before you get to that goal stick with the stock rods and use the extra money elsewere.

As far as Scat itself they are a great company and have been around for along time. If I were to build an other motor, mine new fresh motor is just a 1G rod 2G piston combo now, I would use there rods.

I saw a description that SCAT rods DO NOT require block clearancing when doing a stoker motor in the 4G63 block. I am under the impression that the shape of the Eagle rods require clearancing the block. Is this true?

NOt sure about the Clearancing part of eagle. But I orderd Scat and Eagle both into my Store and I judged them both. They are about the same price, but eagle has great rods. They did have a problem a few years back but ever since then, they are perfect. Scat is a good brand. Well built and weight just a little less than eagle. But holding them in your had you can feel the power that eagle has to make. PLUS------- Eagle has there Rods Rated at 900hp. But Remember that, that rating is giving on a Stock plateform. So stroking it cuts the rating. Scat has there Rods rated to 600whp. Beyond that I would be worried to take them over 500 just looking at them. For the price of a scat compared to an eagle rod, I would pay the extra 40 dollars to gett the Eagle. It is PRICELESS for a Peace of mind knowing you can Handle what you have. How many times do you really wanna tear the block down. If you just want a little more power then The Scat would be fine, but how much Force/Torque are you planning on giving the rods???? No one ever asks that question to themselves before they build. Scat is a good rod, no hard feelings with them. But I have been through the ring with both companies and EAGLE came out on top.

twicks69 on here has Eagle H beam rods and he's making a tad bit over 600hp ..... anyway not to bring back this thread but I have SCAT rods and I love them, I have a PTE 6152e and am seeing 40 lbs/min on my dsmlink. I don't think I would have picked the Eagle rods if I were to do it over again, I would have used Grodens.....

I think the price of the rods has something else to do with it. Otherwise, There are greater rods out there. But I believe Price is y most look at Scat. Not well known, and Comparable to eagle.... Scat's are good for eagles are better, in my opinon. But everyone likes what they like. I would get both Rods, like I did, and Compare them. The Peace of mind that you have is PRICELESS!!!!
