Quick question... Will Openport work in a 95 GSX while using the stock ecu? I'm trying to set my goals for my car, and one of them is figuring out which way to tune the ecu... If openport works I will be thrilled, if it doesn't and I would need to install an Evo 8 ecu then I will just use DSM link.

If your asking if you stock ecu is flashable then no. Only 98-99 plastic case ecus are and they have to have the numbers on the chips.

No but you can swap to a 98-99 ecu and use it with ceddy mod for tuning, and Evo scan for logging. But o would look to see if your 95 ecu is an e-prom. If it is you may want to go with link.

AFAIK, the 95 ECU is not compatible with ECUFlash. EPROM tuning involves either removing and substituting the chip or removing it and using an emulator. Pretty sure that each of the chips can be burnt only once in an EPROM ECU, but there are many others here who might be able to provide more/better info on EPROM tuning.

ECUFlash only flashes plastic cased ECUs found in most 98-99 DSMs or in a swapped Evo ECU of same or newer vintage. If you have a plastic cased 98+ DSM ECU, you need to use the openport 2.0 cable since it supplies the necessary voltage to reflash through the cable. An Evo 8 ECU generates the voltage internally and can use either the cheaper openport 1.3 cable, or the openport 2.0 cable.

Do note that you can log with the Openport 2.0, but on a 95 it will be slow (6-10 samples/second - and you don't need the Openport 2.0 to log, it's one of a few options). Also, the Openport 2.0 cable is said to log at at about half the speed of the Openport 1.3 cable (on the non 95/96 ECUs).

Thanks everyone for you input. I am going to reconsider my route of tuning the ECU. I will be going the DSMLink route for sure.

DSMLink will work with my current ECU. Right? I do have EPROM.
