My hood seems to have all of the original components to open and close the hood but when I attempt to open my hood, it unlatches if someone pulls up on the hood. This means it takes 2 people to open my hood. what is missing from the latch? I think a spring goes somewhere but nothing seems to be broken or missing. I have a haynes book but no illustrations are shown for that

Adjusting the rubber stoppers that are along the radiator support put more of an upwards force of the hood latch, allowing it to jump up when the latch is triggered. Think of it as a bungee cord, if you made a ring with your fingers with both hands and no tention on the bungee cord and let go, nothing would happen. But, if you pull, it puts more upwards force on it, and when you let go, springs upward.

Mine was doing the same until after I took the catch assembly off and cleaned it down with Tri-FLO teflon lub spray, that the inner catch release in that assembly was sticking to prevent the main spring to release fully.

After giving it a good cleaning, that cured the problem with a sluggish hood opening.

Sorry to jump in on your thread but my dad turned my rubber stoppers all the way down so now when i pull the hood release it doesn't click or release the hood. Any ideas of how to get my hood opened now? I tried prying the latch with a flat-head screw driver, but that was an epic fail.

DON'T TAKE A SCREW DRIVER TO IT! have your dad pull lightly as you pull the hood release then raise the rubber bumpers up.
