i have a 1998 gst with a quaife LSD differential with a jon shep stage 3 trans. BUT! when i step on the gas only the passenger wheel spins and the driverside doesnt? When its jacked up i spin the driverside wheel by hand the passenger side spins the same way (posi how its suppose to). i thought if the tranny or dif was #$%^&* it wouldnt spin at all. all help would be greatly appreciated! i dont get it on the sight it says these diferentials will take everything you can throw at them? apparently not!:ohdamn:

I took the driverside axle out to check the splines and there all good. I'm just trying to get everybody's opinion before I rip everything apart. And you could tell the passenger side is doin all the work because you can start to see the metal wires in the tire and the driverside still has over a 1/8th of an inch of tread still on them. And I was also told it would sound like a bunch of loose bolts in a can but you can't hear anything.

Ok I'll take the boots off today or tomorrow but I figured if it's broke under the boot it the axle would be basically broke in half and would spin freely.

It would make my day alot easier if it was just a axle.

It's possible the axle is broke by the joint. So when you spin the tire on jacks the boot is actually holding enough to allow movement. But when your driving it's to much force and just the one side catches an spins. It's just a thought bro, and you shouldn't have to take the axle out or remove boot. Just grab the bar in the middle somewhere and shake up an down if it's broke you will feel it and see it. I've towed my car home from the track with a passanger side axle snapped inside the boot. You couldn't even feel it while driving until you shook the bar. Well that and the fact I knew I snapped it LOL. Just saying its a possibility, any other symptoms or noises by chance.

QUaife is lifetime so that's good warranty but it's probably not broken. You're probably on the right track checking the axles, but the boots aren't that strong LOL so inspect closer

If nothin else a few tubes of JB weld and aroll of duct-tape should take care of any issues you're having.. Worst case you can always buff it out LOL

Well before this happened 3 weeks ago It would make that idk if you would call it a banging noise or clanking noise when you would step on the gas, put it in reverse, or stepped on the brake but that went away in a week so I thought it was no biggie if it went away on it's own.

Turboglenn, If the boot was fully intac and he was only spinning it by hand it could hold enough to allow the transfer of motion. But deffinetly not strong enough to hold while driving bro, you think I'm that dumb. I'm basically saying check the axles closer before assuming the worst that's all.

The test that you don't seem to have done is one of the easiest: lift one front wheel and try to turn it with the car in gear.

And, Glenn, be careful with the sarcasm; the Great Unwashed don't always detect it. Ask me how I know.

i take it, it is broke under the boot because i shouldnt be able to extend it that much. thats why when i spin one wheel when its jacked up the other one spins because the boot is on there tight enough when i spin it by hand. But when its touching pavement and put power to it, it just spins in the boot.

ya i got my hopes up for nothing took off the boots and everything's fine i guess its time to take the tranny out to get at the differential and i did that with the car in gear it did the same thing. and you can tell which side been doing all the work. i know its bad camber wear without being lowered without camber plates. this is just to show what tire is doing all the spinning
