oil squirters on a buit motor!!

Alot of people say that they aren't necessar with an engine that has forged internals. I think it's all just whatever you want to tell you the truth. But on a stock build then you will want to put them in.

No they cool the underside of the piston top. Bottom line is it won't hurt to keep them, if it's the additional oil pressure you want, youll already have extra oil pressure from removing balance shafts anyway. I also worry with such high oil pressures it may be causing the bypass valve in the oil filter to open more often causing less oil filtering ability.

FWIW, I would hate to see what my oil pressure would be without my oil squirters... With my balance shafts removed and my OFH ported, I see some pretty high readings pretty early in the RPM band.

No totally different setups, I would tell you exactly but I forget and I'm at work. Just look around and look for posts by BryanWheat if no one pops in with the info

I don't know about the 7 bolt stuff. But I would defiatly keep them, and I would definatly try and get some new ones. They have a tendancy for the tips to break off when they get old. It doesn't really cause any problems, except then it sprays the block, and not the piston.

If an oil squirter sticks open then you loose oil pressure at the mains. They act just like a mechanical injected fuel injector. As oil pressure builds up they pulse.

With that being said if you can delete them then do so. The underside of the piston cools just fine in almost any instance. The crank supplies plenty of oil to the underside. Our 16g car that runs on alcohol and runs mid 10s had an oil squirter tip break off and that piston had no signs of burnt oil on the underside.

yeah,i was thinking of making my own ones from stainless steel tubing

and have a friend of mine tig weld for me.

thanks

In a 6 bolt block if you get forged 6 bolt rods and pistons the stock oil squirters should not have any clearance issues right?

Only on a stroker 6 bolt will you have clearance issues with the factory squirters.

Or if you do Evo 8 or 2g pistons on 1g rods you will need to swap the OEM squirters with Evo 8 oil squirters. Something I had to do when I rebuilt my motor, its the only way you can retail the jets and not have clearance issues.

Would the 7 bolt stroker have clearance issues as well?

It depends on which 7 bolt block it is. A 1g 7 bolt block would have the same clearance issues that a 6 bolt does, because they use the same squirters as a 6 bolt. A 2g 7 bolt will not have any issues because the squirters are located in the main journal casting. I personally would delete them. There was a big test done a while back where a block was cut into pieces and the oil squirters were tested on a 2g block and most of the squirters were opening at 5-10 psi which would limit the main rod bearings to 5-10 psi of oil pressure. It's rather simple to delete them on a 2g block. The oil is fed thru the main bore in the block. You will need to drive them out from the top, tap the hole, and install a npt plug with thread sealant.
