Oil spraying from the valve cover under WOT????

OK so after an entire weekend dedicated to fixing boost leaks I run into one particular leak that really has me stumped. I have a big crack in my valve cover that is spraying oil everywhere when I hit full boost. Now naturally everyone is gonna say fix the damn leak which ill be doing tomorrow but my question is should there be that much pressure going to the head? I mean not to sound like a complete dumb ass but why would boost be under the valve cover? Or really why would any pressure be there other than oil pressure?

The PCV valve (the one on the back of the valve cover connecting to the intake manifold) is leaking boost pressure. Usually people have their oil dipsticks pop out from this.

You can check the valve by taking it off the valve cover and trying to blow through it from the hose barb side. You shouldn't be able to blow through it.

The valve is cheap, so just get an OEM one if yours is bad.

1. Get a new PVC valve (but they tend to leak anyways, even new)
2. Get a U.S. Plastic Check Valve and install it inline behind the PCV valve. These little suckers hold 150 psi.

It was replaced several months back I had several lines that were collapsing due to cheap/thin silicone hoses.

thank you for the quick response ill get one today and put it on. Since its bad once i replace it is there any need to put a new valve cover on it or can i just rtv the crack on my current cover?

The valve cover still needs to be fixed. I personally would either replace the valve cover or at least get it welded. Many people use JB Weld and say that it works but I definitely wouldn't just use RTV. Check out this thread, it's 8 pages on cracked valve covers, then you can decide what you want to do.

You can get check valves but nothing this good. The shipping seems a little high but it's worth it. Thank of it as an $8 fix, I wish everything else was that cheap!

I had a bad seal on the oil cap and it would push oil past that under WOT so not really uncommon. Like was stated earlier I have heard of it popping dip sticks as well. Replace or repair the valve cover and have fun with it.

Here is one for $30 shipped on ebay with no cracks. I'm actually considering getting this just to have a stock one. All of mine are painted.

You may also want to check at your local auto salvage yard. I can pull valve covers from mine for $20.

Well I put a new valve cover on and its still blowin oil only now its comin from the cap. I guess ill be buying a new oil cap now but I still dont get why there is that much pressure up there I put a new pcv valve on as well.

You should get the check valve too, PCV valves are know to leak, even new. Also you can buy just the oil cap gasket without having to get a whole new cap.

I put a new cheap ass Autozone cap on mine and it did the same thing. Also, did it to another buddy of ours Scott and his cap came from Autozone. We bent the small tabs on the end up a little to force it to put more pressure on the seal and the problem was solved. Note to self. No more autozone oil caps.

got the check valve ordered so it should be here thursday, and if that fails ill get a new gasket for the oil cap. its a shame no parts stores sell these check valves though.

Installed the check valve and that helped but didnt solve it all together so ended up getting a new oil cap and that fixed it. Thanks for the help.

Glad you got it fixed!! I don't know how much a new oil cap was but as I mentioned above you can just replace the gasket and I'm sure it would have been cheaper. For next time.
