Oil Pressure Gauge Install (Electric, I don't know)

I just bought a 97 TSi AWD. The f-er ripped me off, but I'm recovering. Any ways...

I have a Prosport Performance Oil Pressure Gauge. It has 5 wires coming out of the back - red, orange, black, white, and green. This is taken from the Prosport Performance website:

Red - 12v ign. power-meaning power when the ignition is on.
White- 12v ign. power
Orange - Headlight switch.
Black - Ground
Green - Sender

So, I've got everything except for the green wire hooked up. Where do I solder that to? I looked at the turbo 2g ecu pinout, but couldn't find any thing.

Well from what I have read on here if you hook up an aftermarket oil pressure gauge to your factory sending unit it is not goin to read right. Normally they send you a sending unit with the oil pressure gauge to install so that they are both calibrated the same. so you want be hooking it up to the ecu but the sending unit that you install your self

I bought the car with gauge. He told me that the gauge only needed to be soldered in. Where are the sending units generally located? Near the oil filter?

On a 2g they have to sending units near the oil filter but those are factory you should beable to crawl under your car and if it has an aftermarket sending unit installed you will probally see it not hooked up. And it will have a place to just put one wire.

Does the after market sending unit replace the OEM/factory unit?

It can replace the factroy one but it will keep your oil light or the factory gauge want work. Normally everybody removes one of the plugs that are around your filter housing and put it in there but you would have to use an adapter to make most of them fit correctly

nope both of those are stock ones. The first one is for the factory pressure gauge and i think teh second one is for the oil light. But they both are factory. Ive not got around to installing my aftermarket one yet. If you want i can post a picture of what my aftermarket one looks like as soon as i find it.

Aftermarket electronic oil pressure gauges come with their own sending unit. Most if not ALL the time it requires you use the sending unit supplied, as the stock one will not work with it, if it does, prob. not accurate.

Removing one of the oil pressure plugs with allen wrench is a pain. Good luck. It's easier to remove the stock one. I wanted to keep the stock one working too, but I could not get one of the allen plug off.

But I guess tahts why we get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge in the first place which actually shows us in #s how much psi.

Also don't try using the aftermarket sending unit with the stock gauge, it probably won't work, and if you have it connected along with the aftermarket gauge, it could cause your aftermarket gauge to not read properly.

If you want to do this right just get a sending unit for the Prosport gauge then get a T adapter and connect both the stock and aftermarket sending units to it.
