420A Oil pan return line tap help

I just ordered a Chinese turbo off of eBay and before I tap my oil pan for the return line I would really like some tips and to know what size fittings y’all 420a turbo guys are using

I wouldn't tap the oil pan. It's just thin sheet metal. I would drill a hole and weld the fitting.

Though it isn't the best method, that may work if you use a crush washer or gasket. In that case, get the size fitting to match your return line.

As high on the pan as possible. This is basically a drain, and needs to drain quickly or else the turbo can start to consume. Do not place low on the pan where oil accumulates.

Makes sense to me I’m probably gonna tap it up high over the deep part of the pan so it can go straight back to the pickup tube, I’ve also heard that I need something to pinch off some oil flow to the turbo so I don’t blow the seals but idk what to look for

Off topic but I’ve been looking at universal fmic kits on eBay and I would love to know if anyone has actually made one fit without any more fabrication than an angle grinder

I can't speak too deep into this matter but there are oil restrictors that can be ran in line with the oil feed line to reduce flow of oil to the turbo. I believe the restrictor is dependent upon the turbo you have and what its oil requirements are but may be a place to start if I'm not speaking on something you have already looked into.

I know with 4g63 oil pans they have the return dump for the turbo oil offset from where the pick up tube is at (deep part of the pan) so that may also be a good spot to locate the oil return for your set up if it's feasible. If they did it for the 4g63 it's probably a good way to go for the 420a plus this will put you at a very high point and well away from where the oil collects (just in support of what was already stated above)

I just got the turbo and the oil feed flange it came with has a tiny pinhole in it so I wont be needing a restrictor or anything which is awesome

If a turbo drain line is at the level of the oil or below it, it will pool in the return line and cause problems, as they have to drain all of the oil that is being fed so that the CHRA doesn't get slowed down by the backup of oil.

Update: car is done but I’m waiting on a new radiator since my upper radiator hose touches the turbo hot side, here’s a pull on 10 psi
