Basically I want to know if any of you with 16g's are running an oil only center section. If you are do you see any ill effects by doing so?

I know that FP sells an oil only chra

It would make things a whole lot easier to just eliminate the coolant lines, I know mitsubishi engineered the water lines for a reason, but they also engineered the water oil cooler.

I used to run a s16g in the oil only form. I'm not saying it was the right thing to do but I kinked my coolant return so this was my only choice since I needed my car running asap. I ran it like this for about 4 months before pulling it up for my build up. When I pulled it off I checked for abnormal wear and there was none aparant. I just set my tt for 3 minutes to insure adequate cooling seeing as thats why the coolant lines were for originally. Again I am not saying this is the right way to do it but it can be done.

My 18g is a dry center cartridge unit from FP. They had them on sale before switching to the 16g chra's they now sell.

Many have ran mitsu turbos with and without water lines. From past experiences, it's really a crap shoot with how your turbo is going to end up. I've said this before, and I'll say it again, installing water lines takes 10 minutes and cost less than 10 dollars to do so. So why not do it? IMO running a wet CHRA dry is bound to cause problems, just because it's cooling efficiency goes down the drain. Of course if you get a dry CHRA, then by all means do so :thumb:

Are you talking about the coolant heater? I disconnected that a long time ago.ROFL No problems at all. Its what they make turbo timers for.

Seriously though, wet center sections are for stock vehicles designed for the masses of idiot drivers that beat the crap out of the car and never let it cool down. How many cars would they sell if they told people, "you need to sit in parking lot with it and let it run for a couple minutes before you shut it off."?

All of the factory manuals suggest letting the vehicle idle after a hard drive, still sold plenty of them.

When I test drove an evo and got back into the parking lot they told me to make sure and let it run a minimum of 30 seconds before shutting it off. I think they still sold plenty of those too...

of course if youre running a turbo hard, cooled by water or not, after a hard run youre going to want to let it sit before shutdown.

now if youre gonna race someone on the freeway, then after pulling off do some city driving before coming home and turning off, then dont worry.

only time i worried about turbo-timing my car was after a track run, when after doing so-and-so psi and running hard, then pulling up to the lanes again and shutting down. thats bad, mmkay. now running hard, then driving like a normal person a few blocks IMO is cooling enough IMO, and i never had a problem running hard in the backroads by my house and then pulling into the garage and shutting down, since by then the turbo was as cool as it would be for normal driving after a hard run.

They also told me aftermarket parts are bad for the new Si and its ok to run on 87 as long as you don't mind losing some power... We all know people listen to the factory manuals like gospel.  When's the last time you saw that 16 year old girl let her 1.8T cool off or even spool down after ripping into the mall parking lot?

Plan and simple, water cooling is for avoiding warrenty claims caused by idiots. The masses of retarded American public do not let their cars cool, regardless of what the salesman or manual told them. Proper turbo timing and synthetic oil is the answer to choking, not heating up your coolant.
