Hey got my car finally up and running agian thank to RRE. Then on the journey home my dad drove it home from the shop. Totally forgot the my dad installed the drain line with a kink in it and drove it home:ohdamn: so pretty much he was blowing smoke for the 2 mile trip home. Now im thinking he blew my seals on my turbo:cry: . so here is my question what are some symptoms of blown seals besides smoke. I check my turbo right now and i have no shaft play what so ever,so im thinking maybe the damage was not done  but idk just a hope. Is it possible to have blown seals without shaft play?

Thanks

Not yet im going to fix it this weekend, i just wanted to get some feed back so i dont get all my hopes up when im done fixing it. =/ hoping for a miracle now

Many people think that the piston rings are there to keep oil inside, they are really there to keep boost air and exhaust air from leaking INTO the bearing housing. Without proper turbine side piston ring seal, the turbine journal bearing will burn up in a short amount of time.

Plugging the drain makes a huge mess, but doesnt ruin anything.

BOOSTON!

Thank you Robert. Ive tried to explain this on the forums before but didnt get anywhere with the argument.

Right, a better name for the rings would be "air seals" not "oil seals".
