so i have a good amount of oil building up on the valve cover wherre the spark plug wires are, i took the bolts of my cover to paint it but couldnt get it removed.(i was pretty lazy that day) so i put the bolts back on went for a drive around the block, i park it open the hood and see a substantial amount of oil in there about 2 teaspoons, checked the bolts and they are all tight where is tis oil coming from??:dsm:

You could have overtightened the valve cover bolts and created a leak. The best solution would be to remove the valve cover and put a new gasket in there. Old valve cover gaskets don't seal very well.

How "tight" is tight?

Torque for valve cover bolts is about 2-3 (two to three) ft-lbs. Do much more than that and you'll crack the valve cover and leak all over. New gaskets won't help you in that case but inspect the cover on the car for cracks and if you don't see any, you'll still have to pull the cover to check the underside.

Right, you don't want to overtighten the valve cover bolts. It is easy to make them too tight.

Pull the valve cover and inspect inside and out for small cracks. Try using a flash light on one side while looking at the other in a dark room. You should be able to see any cracks but the hair line ones.

Pull the valve cover off, if its tight you have 2 options, 1- be very careful and pry it, or 2-use a 2x4 place it on the front and hit it with a hammer to loosen it, again be very careful. Once its off replace the gasket and the 4 plug hole gaskets. When tightening hand tight all bolts first then criss cross the pattern until all are tight. Also make sure the oil cap gasket ous good, it will lea
k.

ok i will do that thanks for the input i did tighten the hell out of those bolts i dont think it cracked but the bolts should have about 5-6 lbs of torque!!
