oil filter housing

My car has a 6 bolt engine in it i dont know the cars history but i know for sure the engine is a 6 bolt, and it has the filter housing that if im thinking right are from the 1990 engines that is water cooled and from what i have read on them is that there are not good and just lead to problems, can i swap my housing for a air cooled one or am i just stupid and dont know what im talking about. I have a leak in that area and am trying to rule out every aspect, so an answers at all would be helpful. Thanks

1990's came with Air to Oil Coolers & Oil Filter Housings that have Low Oil Temp Oil Cooler Cutoff Valves - take a look at my Gallery for a 91 Housing with no Low Oil Temp valve that is hooked up to an Air to Oil Cooler - You can get away with that in S.C. - I don't think I'd do it in Colorado so make sure you have a 90 OFH.

should i use teflon tape or rtv sealent on the treads of the sensors where they screw into the housing, i want to delete all possibilities of a leak.

so BUCK what did you do with the filter housing were the coolent runs trough did you just cap off the coolent lines runnug to it? I was also wandering if you have anymore pics of that setup?

I removed the Hollow Oil Filter Bolt with a Deep Well Socket - threw the Water Cooler in my spare part box - Cut ALL the longest threaded portion of the Threads off & Loctited it into the Oil Filter Housing - My Oil Filter now screws directly onto the Oil Filter Housing like a traditional setup. Then capped off the Coolant lines. I personally don't use Thread Sealant on those Pipe Thread joints as the Sensor Grounds Electrically thru the Fastener & have had no leaks - I did use Anti-Seize to prevent galling between Metal fasteners & Non-Ferrous threads.
