oil filter housing

what are your guys's opinioins on runing a air cooled oil filter housing or the water cooled housing? It seems that for a daily driver the water cooled would be better only motor due to it would always be cooling the oil, not just when you are driving like the air cooled housing? I was just curious but i think i am going to go with the water cooled unit. Has anyone added an external oil cooler to the water cooled housing?

I switched to the 90 air cooled. Water cooled ones have a tendency to work loose, then when you tighten them up, it crushes and the water and oil mix.

what part of the housing works loose? The sandwich plate loosens up?

I've heard the bolt that holds the Filter tends to loosen up.

I've got an EVO 3 OFH on my car with an air cooler.

Most people switch for 2 reasons:

1. One less thing heating coolant. A FMIC block airflow to the radiator, so you tend to run warmer. Any little reduction in added heat helps.
2. One less place for oil and water to mix. As mentioned before, if you overtighten the water cooled housing, you can crush the internals, and oil and water will mix.

Water and oil run at very nearly the same temperature in engines. A water-cooled oil heat exchanger also serves to bring the engine oil up to temperature, and keep it there.

Yes, DSM oil coolers can be trouble when worked on by chimpanzees.

I have never ran any type of cooler for my oil and have no issues. Jack at his shop has actually done a test on a car with an oil temp gauge and when they removed the oil cooler there was only 1* in temp change if I remember right. All it does is leak, get in the way and cause more issues than it does good.

Or buy a universal oil filter relocation kit.

I have an evo3 housing and a b&m cooler.
