I recently removed my oil filter housing, and when i disconnected the two rubber hoses, this unexpected reddish liquid came out. This came as a shock, because I was expecting oil. I was reading up on this, and i suppose the two hoses connected to the oil cooler. Is this right? Ive got a 92 TSi AWD. What do you guys think?

im thinkin ya undid a power steering line.

im a m/t... thats what i was thinking because the liquid was a reddish, but why would there be PS hoses going to the oil filter?

Those are actually coolant lines. You have a '92, so unless it's been changed out, you have the internal oil cooler. The coolant goes through the filter housing, causing the oil to attempt to match the coolant's temperature. '90-'91's used the external oil cooler which just looks like a very small radiator. The only thing I can think of, is maybe someone used the orange colored antifreeze in your car, and it got old and changed colors? Or the pink antifreeze maybe...OR maybe you have rust buildup and tht made it a brownish/reddish color? I dunno LOL. Good luck man.
