I am just wondering if anyone knows for a fact that you can run the oil filter adapter without the water lines? I was thinking of routing those water lines through my TiAl waste gate and getting a different oil filter adapter, since my stock one is bad.

Explain a bit better what your talking about please? I don't know if you worded it wrong or what but your wastegate doesn't have coolant flowing through it. What oil filter adapter are you referring to?

To the OP. If your going to be running your car doing AutoX or RR events I don't suggest moving the coolant lines from the OFH to this crazy wastegate setup, unless you plan to get an external oil cooler.

I have the new TiAl waste gate with the water cooled option available. I am talking about the oil filter adapter that bolts between the oil filter itself and the oil filter housing. Mine is water cooled. But the stock water cooled adapter is 400$, so my thought was to buy a different adapter and use the water lines that usually go to the stock adapter and route them to the waste gate.

The purpose of the new water cooled gates are not to cool the exhaust gasses but to cool and (in theory) extend the life of the WG diaphram.

Yes you can run the OFH without the lines. When they go bad they usually mix the coolant and oil so you may want to check that as you should not run the car if you have contaminated oil. You can get a used one for significantly cheaper though. PM me if interested.
 
To answer your question... NO it isn't necessary to run coolant through your OFH/adapter unless you plan on AutoX'ing your car.

Why not just tap lines off the coolant pipe from the t-stat housing to the water pump? or even tap off the t-stat housing? I dunno about you, but i like the fact that oil filter housing has some cooling.
 
Empie1, are you talking about options for cooling of the wastegate?
 
If you don't plan on AutoX your car then why do you want to run coolant lines to your Tial then?

Because my water cooled oil filter adapter is leaking oil. I want to replace it with an adapter that is not water cooled. If I do that, I then will have water lines that do not go anywhere. I figured I could just re route them to my wastegate. Plus it is a cool feature on the wastegate that I would not mind using.
 
I'm currently running a non-cooled adapter and I haven't had any issues as of yet (knocks on wood). Theres not really much of a difference that I've noticed. I do plan on getting an external oil cooler though soon

I wanna get an external oil cooler because I plan on doing some heavy autoX and track events this season and I wanna keep the car as cool as possible.

Corey, I don't think the point specifically is to cool the exhaust gasses. I'm almost sure the point is to cool the spring so it doesn't "relax" with higher temperatures of the exhaust gas.
