Official Bench Racing Thread (how fast is my car/how much HP can I expect)

Good idea to buy parts from the classifieds on here? college student, i got the money and whats not. but i can allways use the cash other places.

Yea its fine to buy from the classifieds here, but try to look for people with a good classified rating, people who are a proven long time member, and never send payment as a "gift". Most likely a scammer if they ask for that payment method.

Thanks again Bro

Not a problem at all man.

Edit: any ballpark of what the HP coming out of it will be after all this is installed(i know its nothing major but im surious) and the 97 was a 195HP car if im not mistaken??

The t-25 maxes out at about 230whp at about 17-18psi. But you'll easily be over the 200whp mark.

Vassar Mi, Small World somtimes. ive just moved to Bay city, go to Delta, actually looking for a second car right now. be sure to let me know if you know of anything! ill let you know how it goes.
Thanks

I dyno'd 250whp/260wtq @ 15-16psi on a 14B with a stock-as-a-rock untuned FWD 5MT 1GB in late 2008 to baseline the car.

It was on a dynojet, and admittedly favorable ambient conditions, but stock none the less.

Ha, i didnt even catch that LOL. Yea me and my wife are both going to delta, we're out there a few times a week.

Fwd manual didnt hurt those numbers either haha. Theres a few awd dyno's similarly stock around 230ish whp. So that sounds pretty spot on. I know at those levels you can definitely feel the awd power loss.

I am about to buy a 95 talon fully built. I'm unfamiliar w these cars and just want to make sure everything checks out to the professionals here. Ive always been a boosted v8 guy and these are foreign to me but I gotta get one. This is kinda bench racing, but I just want to know if this is a properly set up car and what she's good for. Thanks in advance!

1995 Eagle Talon TSI turbo
This car has TONs of new parts and a lot of money and time invested. 2.0 engine has been bored and honed to 86mm with JE pistons. Eagle 3.937 crank and eagle 5.9 H-beam rods giving this 100mm of stroke to make it a 2.4L stroker with all forged internals, head has been reworked ported, polished, port matched an 1mm oversized valves installed by bj's head service. Precision 6152e turbo and rx7 680cc injectors that flowed 800 on the bench and have been sonic cleaned.front mount intercooler, Msd wires, synapse blow off valve, sheet metal racing intake manifold, dual stage manual boost controller, dual core aluminum racing radiator with twin 12" pusher fans, 170* thermostat, nitrous and boost gauges installed to a-pillar, dummy cat/test pipe, NoS fogger system with 20lb bottle mounted in trunk, carbon fiber eclipse tail lights, halo projector headlights and eclipse body kit installed, eniki 18" wheels with aggressive sumitomo 245/40zr/18 htrz III tires, new brakes all the way around, short throw shifter spec clutch. Also have 2 weld prostar aluminum ultralights for the strip as well as the original set of stock wheels and tires, k&N intake, ecmlink V3 tuning software with 2 step, 10k rpm limiter, progressive nitrous, etc.. It will handle anything you throw at it as far as tuning purposes go. Ecu has been sent to Maryland and epromed and has been installed. Sony speakers, rear speaker have been fabed for the 6x9s that are now in the car as well as a in dash 7" flip out DVD unit installed with park brake override switch. Greddy turbo timer, strut tower braces in front and rear for exceptional handling.
The engine has 7 miles on it, transmission has roughly 15k miles on it, and body has just over 100k.
Over 15k invested in the car and I just had a baby and I don't need a hot rod. Car has had a full detail. Turbo will support up to 650HP and can easily exceed that depending on wether you choose to run nitrous. I have The receipts to the build to show you. It was built to handle 40lbs of boost and a large shot of nitrous, I have all of the nozzles from as little as a 100 shot to a 250 shot included.innovate wideband lc-1 kit.

Work left to do : nitrous lines are ran and bottle mounted just needs tapped into pipe. needs wideband installed and finished tuning. (has a base tune on it now, starts runs and drives)

Check out my mods list only things diff are ported 20g speed density fp mani and 880cc injectors I'm looking to get it on an aggressive tune on 93oct what's some good hp guesstimates LOL

After dying laughing for the past hour I have a "serious" question. ROFL

Anyway. I have a 97 TSi FWD (actually a 95 GS-T but whatever) I'm aiming for a goal of 300hp. I'm trying to figure out if this setup will adequately get me to my hp goal. With just the exhaust, free mods, and 14" tires on the front I ran a 9.6 in the 1/8th. Also an estimate of what my 1/8th mile time might be would be nice. I'm assuming low 9s - high 8s.

Setup:
FIC 650cc injectors (purchased not installed)
Stock fuel pump re-wired (not done yet)
* 3" catless downpipe
* 3" catback ebay exhaust
* hard intercooler piping
* 1g bov
* vodoo manual boost controller IV (set to around 15 spikes at 20 on occasion)
^ XTD stage 4 6 puck unsrpung clutch
^ XTD 2300 pressure plate
^ XTD chrome moly lightweight flywheel
* t25 (might upgrade one of the 3 i have to a t28 later on)
* pacesetter tubular manifold
^ DSMlink v3
* stock smic
^ kyb agx stuts
^ megan lowering springs
14" slicks (wanting to do this later in the year)
* short shifter
* 3" ebay intake
lc1 wideband (friend said he's got one for me)
msd 8.5mm plug wires (might get with tax not sure)

* = installed
^ = purchase list when income tax comes in

Thanks guys! Just curious. I just want to have a fun little street car and maybe even beat my old man on the drag strip :D (doubt it but I can hope haha)

Right off the bat, no. You need to upgrade your fuel system. Wally 190 or higher, along with an fpr or your going to run lean as hell when you turn the boost up too high. You have a good start, but dont cheap out on it or youll regret it later. Good luck :)

A stock rewired 2g pump will flow plenty to support a T25.

I think 300hp is a real stretch for the T25, especially if you're not doing anything with engine internals. No one on this site (via member dyno page) has hit 300hp with a T25. Not saying it's not possible, but it's a real stretch.

You can check out my brother's profile if you're looking for a mid-8's 1/8 mile setup.

Shortydtp out here in AZ is up there with a t25 running a 6.9 @ 105mph 1/8th mile (10.5 @ 138mph). NOS! ;)

Anyway, that setup is going to make it tough seeing a 8 second 1/8th mile pass. Maybe with a set of DR's or slicks but just the bolt-on's alone is going to make it tough.

Not a DSM, but a little game to test the knowledge of the DSM crowd on other cars...gotta know the competition, right? :p

Car is a '91 Mustang Notchback with the following setup:

stock bottom end
TFS170 w/FTI LSx springs
FTI cam
Holley SM2
75mm TB
80mm MAF
30lb injectors
1-5/8" longtubes, 2.5 off road H and a set of dumped Flowmasters
Astro T5

it made:
338/338 uncorrected
335/335 STD
325/325 SAE

Guess 1/4 mile ET and Trap speed, 2850 race weight.

Mid-high 11s trapping in the 115-118 neighborhood if the driver is awake :p

3.73 rear gear.. on what size tire?

My next project car is going to be an 87-93 capri/stang for some radial tire fun.

Getting closer, but not there yet. 26" tall Hoosier QTP.

Edit: Sorry, rear gear is a 4.10, not a 3.73. It used to be a 3.73 but the new time was with a 4.10.

Is that on the bottle?

That's on motor my friend, with a completely stock, untouched bottom end (doesn't even have pistons notched for valve reliefs.)

That is an example of a well working car, with a lot of track time, that takes advantage of every last horsepower it makes. (There is no bottle on that car anyway though)

That's a great ET/60' for the Trap speed.

Hats off to the driver too.

Yeah, he has that car really working well. He only dyno'ed 10rwhp more than me (probably a difference in the cam) although his race weight is a couple hundred pounds lighter. My car traps in the 114-115 range on motor, so he's got the formula down for that car. Gives me something to work towards!

Oh on a t25 yes, I thought I read a t28 LOL

Yea I said I might upgrade one of my 3 t25s to a t28 later on, but I'll stick with my t25 for the moment :thumb:

:dsm:

I was going to get slicks at some point in the season. I'll probably have them for the shootout if all goes well :thumb: And I don't care if I get into the 8s or not, just would be fun to try to do it with a little t25. I'd be happy with low 9s.

Hey engine builders and race motor knowledgeable folk! I'm trying to push my hx40 t3 pretty far this season and i just have a few questions from those of you that have used Mahle forged pistons and scat h beams. I wanna get a general idea of my limits of the setup here are the specs!

.003 or .0035 ptw clearance
Mahle forged pistons 4032 9.0:1 .020 over
Scat H beams
ACL tri metals
Arp rod and main studs
Whole rotating assembly balanced and blueprinted,
Stock 6 bolt crank micro polished
Torque plate honed,
10,000 miles on her of abuse currently oil changed every 750 miles 20w50
Arp head studs holding on a stock 2g head

Im running 30 psi daily right now, and would like to push 40. I'm worried about my piston to wall Clarence being a little too tight for these pistons to make real power (600+). i know its all in the tune per-say, but i think im skeptical to take these pistons over 550awhp; but I'm not sure what others have ran on them.

Stock blocks have gone 9s right? I don't see why a forged setup couldn't do better?
The build originated around longevity and low expansion, i wanted the most miles out of the motor i could without a rebuild. Thats why we choose this combo with those tight clearances. Like most people, my goals have changed and now I'm wondering how far i can take it before i worry about a cracked piston or a bent rod or anything like that.. Goal of 9.9 or 135-140+mph
