OEM Part Numbers/Cross Reference

I am trying to help a friend find parts for a 97 Eclipse GST FWD MT. His timing belt broke and the pistons hit the valves. He bought a used working head and just has to have it milled and swap out the cams from his car.

I was hoping to go to a nearby You-Pull-It place to find some of the other miscellaneous parts.

Here is where I need some help. His crank angle sensor under the timing belt cover was destroyed. Also the timing belt covers are messed up. I wanted to know if there was a way to find out what cars used the same sensor, timing belt cover, etc... so I have a better chance of finding donor cars at this place.

all the 2g 4G63 blocks are the same. so the timing cover's from any 2g will work, aslong as it doesn't have a 6 bolt swap done to it. as should the sensor.

The sensor is not the same in all dsm's. You need to find a turbo model year 95-96. They were the only years that had that style cam sensor.

The crank angle sensor is the same (which is what the OP inquired about), the cam sensor is not. If it were the cam sensor, he would need a 97-99 unit, not a 95-96 unit.

Thank you for the correction i wasn't exactly sure on the logistics of the 2g blocks as i have never owned one.

Thanks for the information and quick replies. The cam sensor is bolted on to the cylinder head, and the original one is ok. The one bolted by the crankshaft is toast.

The 95-99 eclipse is the second generation, so I will look for those vehicles. What other vehicles came with that engine?

This will be a stupid question, but I am not so familiar with DSM vehicles. How can I tell a 6-bolt swap from the original engine?
