OEM Axle Equivalent

I placed an order for an oem axle from mitsubishiparts.com last friday. I got an email today saying that they can't order that part from Mitsubishi anymore. I'm assuming that means that anyone who tries to order one can't get a hold of one now?

I really wanted to go oem on a part as integral to a high horsepower build as a drive axle, but it seems like I can't... Is there any company the sells a high quality replacement axle that won't break the bank?

OE is the same as OEM. When people say "OEM," they're actually talking about the original equipment manufacturer. When people say OE, they're talking about the original equipment, so the actual part that came on the car originally.

My budget is around $200. Mitsu had one priced at $177. dsmgraveyard has its "OE" one for $130. Something just doesn't quite sit right with that one though. I want to make sure that the axle is at least as strong as direct Mitsubishi stuff, if not stronger.

GSP axles are the favorite around here. $70 a piece, and brand new with lifetime NEW replacements.

Advance has them. They are always in stock around here too. I have a set for the last year, they still look new even after snapping the alt off the car launches.

just go with the GSP axles from advance or the Master Pro from oreilly's. dsmgraveyard's "OE" axles are master pro why not just get them from oreilly's for half off.

No one around here has an issue with them. My best bud has a 2.4/20g setup with no issues with GSP. Thats when I got them, no issues here either.

So idk, everything from an autoparts store is hit or miss 90% of the time.

I am interested in looking for a good oem replacement as well. Raxles has them for 139 only on a send in basis only. I'm assuming that means you'll need to send them your core for a new one. Im ok with that but I just didn't want to have to mess with sending them my axle. Any other options other than the driveshaft shop? I didnt particularly have 800 set aside for an axle either.

To be honest with you most axles are re-manufactured and that is almost as good as OEM quality. What that means is that most axles that you purchase are just OEM axles with either bad boots or bearings that got new boots or bearings and are put back on the shelves. Granted there are some minor differences between remanufacturing companies and the quality of parts they use.

well 98gsxin i order a passenger side axle for my awd swap from them. what was deliver was a master pro box and since it took way to long i had order an axle from oreilly's to use as a temp. i had not installed the oreillys one so i compared both and it was the exact same thing. if you want to check for your self check the product code from the web site DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for DSM Parts! and check oreillys web site part # Master Pro Select CV MI8048 - New CV Shaft | O'Reilly Auto Parts they are the same number #

Correct. Alot of those auto parts stores remanufactured axles actually uses timken bearings. I work at an auto parts store(autozone) and I pretty much know what parts are worth getting from them and which aren't . Axles should be fine; the only problem I've seen is a torn boot here and there. I have yet to see an axle that crapped out due to a bad bearing. Of course if your high on Hp then I would probably say look somewhere else.

I am high on the hp and only plan to go higher... that's what this thread was started for. I'm not going to pay dsmgraveyard twice as much for the same part that can be had at a parts store. I just don't want to get anything cheap, even with a lifetime warranty, I would be snapping and swapping out axles monthly probably... that doesn't exactly sound fun for a daily driver.

By high HP I meant 500 plus. So if you going to do that then no. I have yet to see someone come in with a snapped axle. And one thing you gotta look at is that even if you have axles that are meant to handle alot of HP you still run the risk of snapping them. My friend's cousing owns a performance shop and they use some 1,000 Hp rated axle on cars with only 600whp and they still snap them from time to time.

Yeah just received contact from dsmgraveyard. They are definitely not OEM. Simply a marked up aftermarket. I will end up buying an axle with a lifetime warranty for now it seems, while I search for an OEM one.
