octane boosters and injector cleaners

ok I figured this has been covered already but I guess it hasnt because I searched.

A buddy of mine said when he put things like octane booster and fuel injector in his 91 FWD laser it would always make his car run like crap, he used them right and anything he just said his car didnt like it and didnt recommend me using them.


well im just wondering anyone elses thoughts on this, id like more octane for when I go to the street races, and to clean my system out, and id like to use injector cleaner just to hopefully get better milage ect.

Honestly, in my 94 tsi, i have run several types, even CHEAP types of fuel system cleaner and or octane boost and never had a problem or ill effect. The best one i used was "turbo 108" octane boost, and i felt a pretty big difference in the pep and the gas milege. The car just felt more lively. Not to mention i got 50 more miles to the tank of gas. Personally i have really good luck with them.

I've used Gunk Concentrated fuel inj cleaner for years with no problems. I cant really say if its doin anything though. I just buy that crap out of habit now for some reason.

use the toluene....you can get it at the parts store or paint store. Give them a call.

The only injector cleaner worth doing is the stuff at dealers... there is a certain type im thinking about, but i cant think of the name. Some dealerships have this canister that you hang from your hood, then you fill it half with gas, and then half with this very very strong injector cleaner. You then disable your fuelpump and relieve the pressure. Then tap into the fuel line and this will become your "gas tank" ... just run the car at idle till the car dies..... I work at Mercedes, and we dont have this... i wish we did. instead we use BG 44k fuel systems cleaner. Strogest stuff i have EVER seen for a gas addative. But like i said, the other way is better.

Thanks for that calculator. REAL helpful. I dont waste my time much with octane boosters. I rather spend those bucks on something better such as Dairy Queen

UMMM gravity feed? if so I can't imagine the car will even idle.

sorry, i forgot to add some details.... On this system, after you fill the canister, and screw the lid on, you put an air hose on it. Pressureise the system, then turn the valve to let it flow. You also have to disconnect the return line and plug it. If you leave it on, it will just recirculate the cleaner to the gas tank.

i have talked to a few people about that... so far they all have said there is no ill effects. Its like alchohol.. it just burns cooler... so they all say. That was my big concern cause i dont want to melt my cat.

I can get 100 unleaded.. so im gonna do 3 gallons of 100octane, and 1 gallon of xylene to give me 4 gallons or 104. So take the left over gas in my car.. well say 2 gallons of 93 plus 3 gallons of 100 octane = 5 gallons of 97.2 + 1gallon of xylene= 6 gallons of pure 100 octane.

i can get 94 octane whats determines the ratio for lets say 4 gallons of 94 octane to how much of toulene is needed??? on that site posted above to get 105 octane 3 gallons of 94 will need 3.6 gallons of toulene?? it doesnt seem right...50% is too much, i read somewhere around 10% i beileive....

Here is a comparison of how octane booster effected my 98 mustang gt. One spark plug is before and the other is after. Personally, I wouldnt use octane booster because it just raises your octane by tenths.

i have used the STP once and i got about 35 extra miles on a tank of gas. I am also averaging about 20 more miles since i have put it in about 2 month ago

Thats not a very good before and after picture. The plug on the left is brand new. You should have took a picture of a plug you had in the car for awhile then the same plug after the octane booster. The plug on the right still looks fine but it just looks aged.
