Okay heres the story. My father at one time owned an 81 Trans Am last year before someone stole it from his mothers house in river rouge(almost detroit). I had to give him my car, and I got a 1993 Explorer after the money came back. After all that I destroyed the transmission in the Explorer doing some stupid stuff as I had just figured out how to burn out in the Explorer. Got a used trans and now it's getting really bad in shifting and in driving it. Anyways, my friend has a 1991 Eagle Talon I'm paying him $200 for not $2000.. $200 cash. He doesn't know what is wrong with it but says it won't move when it's in gear. He says it's the neutral safety switch, it's an automatic. I don't really know anything about cars besides to change the fluids when required. So does anyone know if this car is worth the $200. It looks almost brand new. I also have to get new tires for the rims. But I really need a car before school starts again. So does anyone have any clue where I can buy a correct replacemnt Neutral Safety Switch or other possible problems it might have? Also, is it worth my $200?
:rocks:

Does it not move at all when it is in gear? I have heard of dsm autos being stuck in failsafe mode, which is 3rd. I believe. I am sure someone thats knows autowill chime in.

How would a neutral safety switch cause it to not move. Isn't the worst that could happen is not starting? (like not even turing over, as if you were trying to start it in gear)

Sorry I forgot to mention it won't start also, we can put it in neutral and push it but that's about it. So NAPA should have one? Thanks for the response I really need this car to run so I will have a car before school starts up, especially since it's a 4-Cylinder it's pretty good on gas, the explorer gets about 17 miles city and around 19 or 20 highway.:rocks: :rocks:

I forgot to say this again. So do you guys think it is worth $200? Or am I throwing away money?:rocks:

Well it wont move in gear probably because its not started and its hard to move those gears some times. Also the switch would be cheap so if the car is in good condition and thats all that is wrong then yes its a great deal. But with out it starting you will never know what else is wrong

Yeah, if it doesn't start, you have to assume that all the systems you can't test are bad. That would include the motor and tranny. You already know the tranny isn't right but that switch could just be a rabbit hole to other major problems. I guess look at all the fluidsand pull the plugs to see if there are any glaring problems with the motor.

My friend says that the Neutral Safety Switch is the only problem with it. It's go no rust and it looks almost new like I said. There is a good chane that the only problem is the Neutral Safety Switch, so is there a way to bypass it? So for $200 it's an excellent buy?

Did your friend ever have the car running when he bought the car??? It sounds like this could be a bigger problem then just a Neutral Safety Switch, just be sure it cranks before you start putting money into it:D

DSM's have a way of playing games with your money when something is broken;)

Get a paperclip or some wire, disconnect the neutral safety switch plug and short it out. The car should start.
Unless there is another problem.

The car worked perfect before. He said it just stopped starting and he didn't have the time to fix it. It's not been sitting outside either. It's been in his garage. I've decided to dish out the $200 which isn't much anyways, but I really want this to car to be driveable. Accoring to my friend, this is the car to drive. He said it was amazing around corners. He also put all new suspension stuff on it, so I'm guessing it's a little better than standard. Well I'm going to look at it a little better this weekend or next week. Thanks for all your help guys. I love these damn cars. They just scream to be driven. And I really don't want this one to end up parted. Thanks!!!:rocks: :rocks: :rocks: :rocks: :rocks: :rocks: :rocks: :rocks:

I buy EVERYTHING T/E/L that I can find for 200$ I have bought 4 of them to date within a year. My parents drive two of them and we have sold two of them. Most of them around here are from broken timing belts and we can have those running for around 300$ so 500$ for a completely rebuilt engine and sell it for 2000$ is some good profit for our drag cars :D

Thats great. So $200 is definately worth it now. Since I'm going this weekend to look at the car again, I might as well see what I can do about tires. Anyone know of really cheap tires that will fit a 1991 Eagle Talon, Non-Turbo? My friend has tires, and rims on it, but there WAY TOO big so you can't really turn. He gave me the stock rims already, which look like hell, but for the car being $200 I can't complain. So anyone know where I can get really cheap tires for the stock rims?:rocks: :rocks: :rocks:
