I need new rings for my 6 bolt block and figured I'd just do a 1g rod /2g pistons combo since ill be in there. Does anyone rock the NPR pistons from DSM Graveyard? How much power are you making on it? I saw that they say 400hp on 1g pistons and 450 on 2g which I assume are crank numbers. I want real world setups that you are all running. Thanks

First, Check out the marketplace tab, and check the Vendor reviews before you spend your cash.

You may also what to just do a general search on the fourm about any vendor.

I am rocking the same set since ~2008. The motor has survived multiple setups being hung on it, now sits in it's second chassis and about to hate life more than ever before.

I know exactly what Bogus is talking about. The vendor review reflects the vendor and their ability and quality, Athough you can find these on ebay, I think you will be safe using a vendor as a supplier. Just don't let them build your motor.:thumb:

Well, the vendor reviews should also reflect any shipping issues also.

One of my local customers ordered a clutch kit from "a company that shall not be named", and took 2 months to ship, that in turn held his build up since I needed the flywheel and pressure plate so I could balance the rotating assembly.

OP, Keep in mind the 2g pistons are not a drop in affair, the 6 bolt rods will have the wrist pin hole enlarged from a 21mm to a 22mm

I am well aware of that thank you. I know there's a difference between NPR and Nippon Racing or so I've read. Anyone know any other Place to get NPR pistons? I am planning to use a Holset HX35/40 later on in the build and wanted to make sure these would be able to survive LOL.

Most of your piston life will depend on the tune, you can melt a set of wisco HDs in a heart beat with a shitty tune. The set of pistons that I used I bought on eBay. The casting and the machine work looked really good, from what I remember they looked better then the OEM ones I pulled out. For the price you probably won't find a better set. Maybe someone knows otherwise but that's just my opinion.
Here is the link to the same pistons I bought.

You can also rip the bottom out of a piston, which I am frankly amazed I have not done yet. In truth a new short-block is in the works as this one has just about lived twice as long as expected.

Forsure, I know it's all in the tune, I just heard that NPR are supposed to be as good if not better than the oem piston. I want to throw down big numbers without having to worry about them grenading or something at low boost or low power.

I could have sworn NPR (Nippon Piston Ring Co.) *is* the OE supplier for the 1g/2g stock piston heads. They are the only one whose off-the-shelf product is identical to that which came in the engines out of Normal, IL.

Nippon Racing, on the other hand, is still up for debate as to who actually runs/owns them. Is NPR their parent company? Are they an offshoot or worse, a "Godspeed"-type affair. Don't know. There's about a hundred threads on this topic.

NPR is the OE supplier to Mitsu along with a slew of other imports, They also make the pistons for the Ford 4.6 and 5.4l

NRP is no way part of NPR, They are just close for the intinals.

I just got NPR rings in the mail today that I ordered from BogusSVO. I couldn't find the ones I wanted so I went through him. If you can't find them, he'd be a good option. Shipping was really quick too. (Mine are also 6-bolt rings)

Yes I've talked with him, I will be ordering as soon as I find if my block is still good for the standard bore

I just finished a complete engine build in my SW20 Toyota MR2 turbo, I used NPR piston, my 3SGTE engine is doin great so far. As boostdriven earlier mentioned he used that brand in his brothers car, which my friend Justin later bought and he boosts 30psi every day, drives it as a daily, his NPR pistons are holding up great in his DSM. I say go for it, they're good pistons

Here's one that took some knock abuse. It hammered the bearing out before it melted the piston.

Survival is in the tune!

Common now.... It's not all about the tune! :D

Machining accounts for some of it!!

But it will not matter how well it is machined and assembled if the tune is trash....OMG

Ill give you that Dale!

Without an experienced machinist that can communicate with you about intended use and familiarity to the platform even a flawless tune will not save you. And vice versa of course.
