Well some of you may have seen my thread about trading my Ruger SR40c pistol for a 1993 GSX 5-speed. I went and looked at it this morning. We put some gas in it and hooked up jumper cables to it and it cranked fine but wouldn't start. So we pulled it out of the weeds and tried pulling a plug to see if it's getting spark. No spark. Then we cracked open the line on the fuel filter under the hood to see it it was getting fuel and it's getting plenty of fuel. We started looking around and saw that a vacuum line had been chewed a little bit by a critter.. The car has been sitting for 2.5 years. So we figure it's got a chewed wire or two or three or ten somewhere LOL. Everything else seems to work okay but it's not getting spark.. Any ideas?

Sorry if this thread is in the wrong section. Mods and admins feel free to move it as needed. Thanks!

Here's some more eye candy of the poor thing after we pulled it from the weeds

The vacuum line was not completely chewed through. But you could tell something had started to chew on it. I checked the plug at the coil and it was good

Check the ecu, it sounds like you have some bad caps. If not that check mpi relay while your in there. Then move on to coil pack and power transister. My guess is the ecu because every car I've bought that's sat for a while always had busted caps in the ecu.

How would I go about checking caps in the ecu? Sorry I'm new to DSM's and tuners all together. I'm more familiar with my Camaro LOL. Also where is the power transistor and how would I go about checking it? Also

Have you checked to see if you have injector pulse too. That will be able to tell you right off the bat why you lost spark too

Honestly I haven't checked anything. I just know it has no spark. That's why I'm asking you fine people what I should be checking. Lol :)

to check for blown capacitors youll need to remove the ecu. If you dont already know, the ecu is behind the radio in the center console area. Once you have the ecu out, remove the cover and inspect the board for leakage or burns around the capacitors.

Thanks for the pic. Helps a lot! I'll do some digging online and see what else I can come up with. I really appreciate all the help from you guys. I'm really excited about this car and hope I can get it running. Wish me luck! I'm gonna need it LOL

Well I'm officially the new owner of the GSX! Went and did the paperwork on the title on Saturday. Turns out it's actually a 1992. Not a 1993. Hopefully I'll be able to tow it to my house by Sunday. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks again for all the help so far!
