Non-technical question about 16g

What vehicle used the small 16g from the factory? I assume the “big” 16g was used on the Evo I and II and the “Evo III” 16g came on the Evo III. Somewhere I read the small 16g never came stock on any car, but if that’s the case, why did Mitsubishi engineer it?

Small 16g's were on the early JDM GVR4 stuff.

i think they came on the Galants if I remember correnctly.

So only the Japanese Galant VR4 came with the small 16g? And I assume the US Galant VR4 came with the 14b? It just seemed counter-intuitive to design and build a turbo for the aftermarket crowd. No car manufacturer would ever do that.
