Non eprom DSMlink

I don't think it's possible Shawn.
EPROM is basically memory that doesn't go away when you shut it off.
So I'm almost positive you need it to run DSMlink.
But I hope not :)

The news is that if you have a 1G, this will be a possibility. Us 2G are still screwed. Here is a quote I found:

I don't know where you got your info from but this is what will happen

Not entirely. We do have an EPROM conversion board ready for the 1G ECUs, but V3
actually has nothing to do with it. It's just coincidental that we're going to
release the two around the same time.

For 1G ECUs, yes. We can convert a non-EPROM to EPROM.

We can read about it because we are current dsmlink users. There is a 15+ page thread on the dsmlink forums about V3.

Thats interesting, I dont think its out yet so how would we know? I read it is over 700 dollars.

If your talking about V3, you read wrong. For current users it will be less than $200 to upgrade to V3. For new users it should be about the same price it currently is.

I'm am hoping evoscan will support full flashing of 2g ecus. They are getting closer and closer. So far they can read 99 ecus. Of course they can also read knock sum for 99's already. A $130 tool that surpasses dsmlink, and you don't need an eprom.

Let the competition begin.

I believe v3 is already in the beta testing stage so while there is no release date yet we can surmise that most of the major development is completed and a working product can be expected about a day sooner than it could have been expected yesterday.

It will be out for public purchase before the end of the year.

How does it surpass dsmlink?

It doesn't necessarily, it is about the same as having an eprom burner but you never have to pull the chip out and the logging software is arguably better at creating easy to read logs with more powerful graphing utilities. Also evoscan doesn't actually do the flashing it is actually a program called ecuflash which is what is largely used in the evo and subbie world for tuning.

The late model ecus are also proving to be more or less unusable with these programs and so far the hypothetical solution is to try and use an evo ecu. You can log with any of the plastic case ecus (including knock sum) but you can't flash them and it seems like support for flashing is extremely unlikely. Earlier ecus are useless and will never be flashable.

The funny thing is the new dsmlink may cost up to $700 and then I heard it will be like a 100-200$ upgrade for the 1g's to use it without the eprom so it will cost the same if you have one or not.

Yes, there are some running evo8 ecus in the evo3 car, which the evo3 car has all the same sensors minus a few useless ones as a 2g car. The harness pins are just swapped for all these. So an ev08 ecu CAN work in a 2g. And will be easier to swap than a 1g eprom into an evo8 just to get dsmlink.

I think dsmlink is great! I run it. But an evo8 ecu is not that expensive and evoscan/ecuflah/cable cost about half to 2/3. And does as much. I have a rom image to flash to an evo8 ecu so that it will work in your evo3 car. The evo 3 car has the same maf as the 2g. So there's no need to even change the maf to get an evo8 to work in a 2g car. But the evo8 maf can read as high as a gm maf anyway :). It's a good upgrade.

We only have to wait appx 5 more years for v3!

Its been being built for way too long.

It will come.. but whenn

Good quality products take a lot of R&D. They already have a great product so why rush the new one. Better to come out working than have all kinds of bugs IMO. I did hear they are waiting on speed density but will be updated a few months after release, which I think is not to smart.

If you read Pat's post, you'll see that the projected release date is before the end of the year. They are still working out some kinks with the GM MAF system, as well as tying up a bunch of loose ends in the program. They still have a very long to-do list. It is out to a very select few beta testers (they have chip, cable, software). If you understand how much R&D has gone into this release, you'd understand why it's taking so long. They have completely changed the program. They have added so many new features. And then have plans to make it even better after release, with speed density being one of them. They could implement everything that everyone wants, but then it would take years more of developing. They want to get a solid version out and then they plan on having many free updates with new and exciting features. Just be patient and it will be here. I started asking about the release date last year and I just keep getting a new date.

Im not by any means complaining that its taking so long.

I do wish it had came so far,
But if it needs to take longer then I wish, well thats fine. Ill wait.

I cant wait for GM MAF, I really dont like the way that our whole Air suitation is set up on DSM's

Speeddensity is going to in the earliest of the updates. They specifically said that they want there to be a good long amount of preliminary test running and good base maps extensively proven first. And I agree. Since the ecu has to do more calculations for SD, it's much easier for a code problem to blow up your car.
