so on the 7th i left for vacation but at the time it was flooding, as in my area was under a state of emergency, no power, i was locked in school, and roads were closed. i managed to get out of school early and get my car home and it sat home for about 5 days. today was the first time i started it up since i've been back. i noticed while driving that i had decent bottom end power but i had almost no top end power. it seems like 4th and 5th gear lose total power around 2500rpm. also i noticed a smell coming from the engine bay and when i get in higher rpms in the lower gears to build power, i had smoke coming into the cabin from near my foot well area. im a little hesitant to drive the car but it's my DD and i need it.

edit - in 4th and 5th gear ill floor it, i build full boost but my rpms climb very very slowly.
 
Well if you had smoke coming into where your foot is, I would probaly worry about that first. They may be even related.
 
Yeah, smoke coming into the cabin is never a good thing.... Could be a clogged catalytic converter if your still running one. That may bog you down a little when romping on the gas...
 
nah, i have a resonated test pipe, if it's not smoking you can definitely smell it, im going to have my brother take a look at it or another buddy of mine. what are the symptoms of pulling timing? why would it do it on it's own like that? could it have anything to do with water splashing under the bay from hitting a puddle or two?

only mods on the car are a catback with test pipe and a fuel rail, other than that it's all stock.

edit - and no i dont have any data logs, i dont have any tuning/logging equipment yet besides and obd2 code reader but at that it doesn't help.
 
i guess ill have to have my buddy take a look at it then. i dont know anything about timing to how to retard knock or anything so im sure that's my best bet.
 
ok, i have an h8 ecu in it from a 98 gsx i believe, i can get ahold of a tactrix 2.0 cable and i have ecu flash to take a log of it so ill have to do that when i get home.
