Top end?

Would you recommend doing a top end(gaskets etc.) Before modding anything on the engine?I just want to make sure i have my priorities straight and spend the money on the right stuff first.What are some of the first things you would recommend doing in order to ensure proper running with the mods?

it depends on the mileage of the engine and what is recommended. I would do a compression check as well as a waterpump and timing belt at least. If anything is leaking then fix that.

Compression check and leak down test will tell you everything you need to know. More importantly, how are your belts looking? (timing and balancing shaft, among the others).

I replaced those about 6mo. ago.They seem to look alright.I just want to build this thing up,but,i want to make sure that i dont blow it up because of lack of preventative maint.Right now i am kinda working on the suspension and i want to get the ride quality right befor i move on to the beefin the engine.By the way.Best shocks and springs for the money?Nothing adjustable just straight shocks and springs.Something that will drop it about 1 1/2" to 2"?
