I had a similar scenario without the lights going on/off in my 93 tsi . Turned out to be my computer (ecu) had some corrosion on one of the vertical boards. If no other solutions come to you view a picture of inside a good ecu and a bad ecu with corrosion and open yours and take a peek and see if yours looks the same. Don't know where the ecu is located on a 2g but its behind the radio on a 1g. It was pretty easy for me to check. Hope this helps

Well the clicking noises are coming from a little black box about 3 inchs squared under my dash far left near clutch pedal and when I try to turn it over I can feel it clicking even more inside the box I think its some kind of relay not sure but car still wont start the other day my locks started to act up but it was on for about 15 sec

This is what was happening to me. When I turned the key to the on position it would do this. The clicking was coming from my fuel pump relay. I didn't touch the key but once to put it to the on position in this video. This did not effect my lights or locks, my symptoms were no starts and sometimes shut off while driving, but would start right back up but Would not start until this clicking stuff stopped. sometimes it would last a long time. Sometimes I wouldn't see the symptoms for a month. Hope this helps.
