Saskatoon,
I have an 87 honda crx i decided to use an f4a33 (unknown condition) in it with the 4g63t. It worked fine for awhile until i put in a boost controller, it was shortly after i put in the shiftbox. Then the trans started slipping in all gears. Real bad. To where it wasnt driveable.
I swapped in another trans and this one has 0 overdrive. It shifts into id then slips like neutral.
I dont know if i maybe plugged something in wrong?
But it seems to me it would need end clutches according to google searches.

My question, it you have read all this and would please assist me, does this mean that i need to do end clutches right now? It held 20 psi in third no problem. I dont need overdrive its just going to 1/4 mile a few times this year then its going awd for next year

Sounds like end clutches. The end clutches is o/d and can be swapped with the trans still in the car. Mise well do a trans filter and new trans fluid while your freshening things up.

You said shift box. You have tried putting the car Into every gear correct. Then it slips out of o/d into what 3rd gear or another gear?

With the shiftbox off it will just slip all day.
It will shift into 4th and stay in for about 3 seconds then it just freewheels. Its like neutral but it's actually still in overdrive and it wont shift back on its own. If i put the stick in 2nd it goes again like normal

If it turn the shiftbox on when i shift into 4 it works for a second or two then just nothing again until i downshift.

While it may be coincidense the shiftkit install vs OD loss, the shiftkit makes less heat and less slipping so i doubt its that, just to be sure check the wiring again and confirm its all connected ok and not loosing signal and dropping the signal,

But if all that is ok then yes look at the clutch pack on the outside of the trans box, also as mentioned above also confirm the fluid is not burnt and filter is a good oem filter

I'd put money on just end clutches going out. In the end clutch assembly that I rebuilt, it was from a small cut in a seal that made it slip as it couldn't hold pressure, which toasted the clutch pack. I would yank the end case off and put an IPT endclutch kit in it. It fixed my sons Spyder and it acted the same way.

Sounds like you end clutches are bad. You can replace them with the transmission still on the car. I believe the end clutch kit cost about $100. It shouldn't take you too long to replace the end clutches.

Ok cool thanks a lot for the replies

My main question tho was if i can run it as is?

I dont care if i wreck the transmission im just curious if there is no point trying to run it, third gear will just go out right away too?

Or is it possible that third can still hold fine for a few track outings? I was planning to awd auto swap anyways.
