no fuel pres. have spark calling the dsm gods

i have a 97 eclipse gst i built the engine and put it in. i must have missed a ground strap because it found the throttle cable for the ground and melted it together. got a new one and made a strap ran fine for about a hour or two then it died and the fuel pump quit. ive tested the relay its good the pump is good i can not get a scanner to read the computer nothing happens. the relay doesnt click when the key is turned on but the MFI relay does i cant find any situation like this ive been studying these cars for about a year now and have a good idea on what works and what doesnt im just shady on the wiring.it has spark ill shoot alittle starting fluid down the throttle body and it fires. i dont know what to do help this dsm get back on its feet.

Take the return line off of the fuel rail and hover it above a gas tank. Have someone crank the car and see if you have fuel feeding through.

Your next is to check ALL of your relays and fuses.

Pull out the pump and bench test it. An easy way to do it is to LET IT DRY COMPLETELY and then simply ground one pin and connect a 12V source to the other. It should kick on. If not, then you've found your issue.

Next, check your filter for clogs. The tank could have had a bunch of crud built up and clogged up the filter sack, the fuel filter, or something else. Make sure to flush out everything. ^^

Also could be a very bad grounding issue from the details above. Pull your ECU and check it for leaking caps or burns. Does it smell like funky fish? Do you smell any burning plastics anywhere?

ok well... did you test the pump? if you got spark but no fuel that is just telling me that you need to change the pump.....

ok ive tested the pump and its good put 12 volts to it and it runs i took the ecu out and it doesnt smell like funky fish or burn out but there is one of the M5269L low saturation output drivers looks like it got burned or something its about the size of a match head. ive even tried to hook up the fuel pump straight to 12v so its on constanly and tried to start it and still nothing i havent tried a noid light on the injector wiring to see if its pusing. so the computer wont tell the pump to kick on or to fire the injectors. i cant get the scan tool to read either so could the ecu be bad but still make it spark or is there a fuse that im missing??? dont know what to do at this point im ready to give up.

There is a fuse in the driver side of the car. It's a 20 I believe? At least in the 1G there was. If that's not in.. the car won't start. Check all basic fuses.

Take a picture that of possible burnt spot on the ECU and post it.

you need to hook up a test light to the pump when you turn the key on it should light up for a few seconds. you said it tested good and runs so that should rule out the ground to your pump so i would go to a parts store get a noid light and see if the injectors pulse soud like you burnt the driver in the computer

i believe thats what happened but i hate to buy a 300 dollar computer just to find out that it wasnt the problem and if the injectors arent pulsing then what does that have to do with the fuel pump not running? here are some pics of it you can see the one driver in the middle has a burn in it is doesnt smell bad but the underside of the circuit board has what looks like acid on it. im beting thats the problem im gonna bite the bullit and get a ecu from ffwd racing today hope fully that fixs her. wish me luck!

It certainly doesn't look good. It's evident that it's damaged, though I haven't messed a whole lot with ECUs so I can't say why the FP wouldn't run due to this. All I can say is check for voltage going into the FP and then out of the other side. Have someone turn the car over while you check for voltage at the pump (The pump doesn't get signal until the car is cranking.)

You can find an ECU on here in the classifieds for pretty cheap usually. Maybe one of the mods or Wisemen can chime in on this and give their opinion on the ECU before you dish out the cash for one.

Try jumping the pump to see if it will turn on. If it dosent turn on bad pump if it does, start checking the wiring. If you melted a ground chances are you blew a fuse check your fuses first, oh and swap the relay for the hell of it.

ive done most of this stuff that ive been hearing about acouple of times just thinking that the car might have changed its mind and said im just joking haha that didnt happen though anyway im in sort of a rush to get the ecu so whats why i was going to go priority mail it to me cause otherwise im hauling this curse to the dam dump.

ok so heres the up date on the car i bought the new ecu hooked it up and put a grounding kit in it and the car still wont start there still isnt any fuel pressure. and now theres no spark anymore wtf happened.

Just an update for theose who helped me and those who may have the same problem it was the crank sensor. the only problem that made me believe that it wasnt the crank sensor it still had spark. but shes fixed now and takin names.
